STOP engine light only comes on for specific reasons...Low Oil Pressure, low Coolant Level, high Coolant Temp and some come on for high oil temp. This would not be caused by a fuel filter. When it comes on you should check all the gauges and shut the motor down. Depending on the problem the motor may shut itself down or switch to a low power limp home mode. We're there any other warning lights or other indications. Have you checked the coolant level? If in Atlanta there is a great Cummins South facility that specializes in motorhome said that I have used with great success.

I believe there is a Mobil service available call them
Atlanta's Power Generation and Diesel Engine Specialists | Cummins Power South

I used these guys many times when I lived in Georgia. You will not get ripped off with them.

I have a 1999 Monaco Windsor with a 330 Cummins. I had the same problem a few years back. The Shut Engine light would go off when I was going down hill, but when I accelerated to go up the next hill the Stop Engine would come on. I finally got to a Cummins dealer and they diagnosed a low fuel inlet pressure to the fuel pump. It turned out I had gotten some bad fuel and the fuel filters were clogged. I always keep spares now.

Do you have an ISC engine? They are prone to having an ECM oil pressure sensor failure. Oil pressure in the gauges will read normal as it is on a different sensor. Symptom is STOP engine light followed by a derate followed by shutdown. BTW, as Mike says, STOP light means your engine is going to shut down shortly look for a safe spot. Do not continue to drive as the ECM detects a condition which will result in serious engine damage.

Cummins Power South in Tampa fixed mine. They were very helpful, two cats and wife in waiting room. 4 hours and under $500 out the door.

If you are asking me, it was an intermittent stop engine light. Light would come on followed by derate followed by shutdown. No indications on the dash gauges other than normal. There is an oil pressure sensor for the dash gauge and a separate one for the ECM. Apparently the the ECM oil pressure sensor fails and provide random data to the ECM. Which, when it sees less than 10psi?, protects the engine. The fix is to replace the sensor with a simple go/no go oil pressure switch and an ECM update to sense go or no go (followed by derate/shutdown). This fix is for the older ISC's. Some have have preferred to not update with the ECM fix and have gone with new old stock, although how hard they are to find now is unknown.
