Yesterday I picked up the alternator. They replaced the regulator and the diodes. Re-installed it in the motorhome and connected the “ALT RELAY” wire back up to the fuse where it was originally in the rear run bay fuse block. The engine started right up, the voltmeter came right up to 14.4VDC and the Alt Fail light went out. Drove it to the sanitary station, the filling station and to the storage shed for a total of about 15 miles and everything was fine.
I have no problem with “I told you so”. When posting threads and soliciting comments and opinions, varied suggestions abound and some contradict each other. Example: I got stuck on the ASSumption that all Monaco coaches have an alternator with a sense wire on it and now I know that is not true because mine has none. I think this is due to the snow flake theory that no two Monaco coaches are the same. Some have sense wires and some don't. Sometimes I pick the wrong suggestion to go with and then have to backtrack. It's all part of the learning process and man, did I ever learn a LOT on this one so I expect a few I Told You So's.
It's all good and I sincerely appreciate each and every contribution to this thread. I am very happy that my motorhome is back in running order and I learned how to limp home if it ever happens again by disconnecting the alternator, bypassing the Trombetta, running the generator, and reinstalling the driveshaft with proper bolt torque while insuring the yokes were in phase. Special thanks to those who stuck with me till the end and questioned my ASSumptions. And I hope this thread helps someone in the future should they experience a similar problem.
Picture of Leece Neville alternator and newly installed regulator. Sorry they are sideways.
