I have been thinking about this conversion also. I read a review on ebay for a Wabco "style" dryer. The review stated that the ports were all metric instead of NPT so it would require adapters. So they may not be all the same.

Thanks guys,
One unit on Ebay: BRAND NEW AD Air Dryer 12V (Replaces Meritor Wabco R955205 / 065691) | eBay
Seems to be NPT fittings as far as I can tell.
It looks as though I can just sit under the coach to remove the existing dryer. Confined space but doable.
Can I raise the air bags as well? I am assuming I will need to drain the air tanks before unhooking the air lines to the dryer.
Thanks again, Iver.

The one I saw said NPT but in the description it said metric. You should be good with that one.

I made ramps from 2X10s and drove it up on the them. That gave me plenty of room to slide under the coach with the air system empty. That way you don't need to extend the jacks or use jack stands or for safety.

I looked at the Pure Air Plus while I was under the coach and it looks like there is only two air lines and an electrical connection to remove.

I talked to an ex-Meritor rep today and he said the SS1200 uses a regeneration valve which uses coach air to dry the desiccant.
The1200P requires a separate purge tank to clean the desiccant and the 1200Plus uses the compartment below the dryer for purge air.
He said the SS1200 (R955205) should be okay as a replacement providing the air entering the dryer is 170* or less. If the air is hotter than that it basically passes through the dryer as a vapor.
He also said it is best to have the dryer lower than the compressor when I mentioned I might want to relocated it. I think if leave the dryer where it is and I use a bracket like the one Walt used, I should be able to get at the dryer easily enough to replace the cartridge.
Iver.

Barmcd,
When I rebuilt my Pure Air Plus after it left me on the side of the road coming home from Q this year. There are 4 air lines, the main in and out plus 2 smaller air lines going to the governor, (1 red and 1 silver) they tell the governor when to load and unload the compressor.
Since mine is a '95 it may be a little different than yours but I'm sure it would be very similar.
I got my parts, the upper ($109) and lower ($49) kits at Traction Co. a truck parts company on the west coast.

I might have mistaken those small air lines for electrical connections. They are much smaller than the main air lines?
