Switch lights.

When activating the switches on the drivers side, should they light up when activated?

Not sure how yours are set up but on my HR, only the ones with the light bar will light up when activated: Block Heat, Jake Brake and Mirror Heat. Pic below.

A previous owner had put a velcro strip on the Jake Brake switch. That is actually pretty handy as I can always find it by feel. I use it all the time and hardly ever need to use the service brakes until I need to come to a stop.
