Good to know. I too have an AM license, but NY only has an RV license (R endorsement on a Class D), not a non-CDL Class A, and I don't want to downgrade and lose the possibility of retaining the Class A when moving out of this state into a state like Texas, which is a real possibility with all my kids and grandkids there. So I keep paying to maintain the CDL for the time being.
Sorry for the mini-hijack, but it wasn't worth starting a whole 'nuther thread over, I don't think.

They probably wouldn't, but make a claim and let's see if they change their tune

What! Policy's aren't paid out according to a DL endorsement. The policy covers the vehicle and the listed driver. The insurance company doesn't care about your DL endorsement.

No, they won't dishonor a claim because you didn't have the right driver's license.

I got my Texas class B several years ago. One day driving hwy 59 South through Houston, in a typical Texas down pour, we got side swiped by a pickup truck when it hydroplaned. When the police arrived he asked for my DL. After looking at it he said "good, Your properly licensed, I won't have to have it towed and impound your motorhome". Can you imagine the cost for that? By the way the pickup driver never stopped. Got his LP though. He didn't have insurance.

Class B non commercial testing
I have a 42 ft Monaco Dynasty and want to get a Class B non commercial CDL drivers license. I have copied CDL's Chapter 14 and will be taking the test in April or May. Does anyone know where I can take the written test close to Tyler, Tx and the easiest place to take the drivers test as I'd prefer not taking it in Houston or Dallas area. Sounds like Waco would be a good candidate but it is a good drive from East Texas. Appreciate all the good info provided on this web site.

You should be able to take both written and driving tests in or near Tyler. Check the Texas DPS website for more info. You will have to take the written test first and pass it, then you can sign up for the driving test.
Good luck.

I took the written test in Weatherford where I live and then took the driving test in Springtown. Small city with easy driving.

No. When you arrive with your RV you park next to a curb. All she had me do was back up about 20 feet without hitting the curb. Then off we went. Seatbelts! Cannot go up on a curb or you fail. If you rub a curb you loose points. My wife and I both took the test. 41 ft Tiffin. Easy Peasy

I am up for First Renewal on/before June’19. My initial application required driving test and Required parallel park. All was done in McKinney. My renewal is written only and again in McKinney. One can go online on the day you wish to take test and setup a time. That reduces (supposedly) your wait time.
