The slabs.

I've read a little about the slabs. I have never been there (not quite sure where it is) and am wondering if it is a good place to go. I like to talk and visit with a variety of people. It does sound like there are many reasons why many different people go there. I wounder if any of you have experience and suggestions to offer?

Good evening Loren,
I also have heard of them, but have never been there. I believe it was a old military installation and the slabs are where the buildings were located on. It is dry camping at a very low cost if any. You would have more fun at Quartzsite and lots of people to talk to etc. Maybe we will meet there. deSanford

If I remember right they are along the Eastern side of the Salton Sea, we were on our way home from Court Sight one year and we stopped to look around when someone who was staying there came by to talk and when he told us about a shooting the other night it did not take long when my wife said lets get out of here.
I ask do you want to have lunch first Well you know the ans to that so off we went.
Never stopped their again.

Thanks for the reply's. Guess for this year I hope we'll make it to quart-site. We have plans to be there so if all goes well, we'll be there. If it turns out we have lots of time -- then we might swing by the slabs -- and see how we feel about the area. I'm not a brave as I once was -- with the world getting a little more violent -- it makes sense to be wise.

Drove through it about 5 years ago. I wanted to stop for the day and night , wife made us move on . I don't think we missed much. I would go back just to see Salvation Mountain.

He is in a nursing home. The people there are keeping it maintained.

Salvation mountain is just outside the slabs. Yes Leonard was fun to talk to. It is on some registry(folk art maybe) now and will be kept up. As to the Slabs there are the poor RVer's and the rich RVer's both there and from Prevost to the most cobbled together RV's one has ever seen. Yes old military base. I would not stay there as there is an unsavory group there also.
