toad went dead?

So I got home from upstate new york last night to find my jeep toad completely dead.

I'm using a 7 wire hookup to the motorhome, and on my previous coach, this hookup kept the jeep's battery charged thru a power lead on the coach connector.

Anyone got a wiring diagram for the 7 wire connector on the back of my 08 knight?

Or has anyone modified this to provide a battery charge wire?

Or do I just have something connected wrong?

The cable from the jeep is wired per this:

Unless changed by an owner, ALL 7 pin plugs are standardized per your picture. Same with 6 pin, 4 pin flat plug, etc......
Our battery (pin 4) is controlled by the MH ignition sw. and connected to toad battery when US Gear was installed.

The lights on my toads have always been re-wirred to be independant, new wires and bulbs so not to interfere with factory system which takes more amperage. They run off power from the coach. There is nothing actually tied into the toads wirring, so no need to monitor charging, it's just like it's parked.

JimM68,
I don't have a wiring schematic but I do have a question for you and I only mention it because it happened to me. This may not help you but just in case.
My question is what year and model is your Jeep? I ask because I found out on mine that I don't have to have the key in the ignition to keep the steering column unlocked and therefore don't have to pull the fuse in the fuse box to keep it from running down the battery.
I found out the hard way after towing all day and ending up at our destination in a very isolated area outside Yosemite National Park. Dead battery because I didn't pull the fuse all the way.
Anyway I found out on this site that the steering column on my 2009 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited doesn't lock with the key removed. Problem solved for me even though I had assumed it would be the same as the previous jeep setup I had.
Who knows maybe you have the same year Jeep. Worth checking.

My jeep is a 2000 TJ. I disabled the steering lock myself so I could tow without the key in.

While I like the separate wiring idea a lot, this one is not setup that way.
Also, the SMI stay n play uses a lot of power.

At any rate, the old motorhome charged the battery, and this one doesn't.

The diagrams I found (non-monaco) show that pin couyld be either a charge or backup lights.

Does anyone have anything specific to late model monaco's?

When that happened to me I found the fuse for the clearance lights on my rig had blown. Replaced it and no problem since.

Jim, The pin # 4 should be hot with ignition on. Monaco should be able to tell the fuse number to look for.

I had a 98 Dolphin 33 ft gasser with no charge wire on the 6 pin connector so my Suzuki toad battery would go dead if I did a lot of braking with the Roadmaster aux brake. I wired a separate connector from the MH battery back to the Suzuki battery with a 30 amp inline fuse. Didn't necessarily like the extra connector but it fxed the problem. I learned early on to make sure the ignition switch was in the ACC position and not accidently in the ON position. Good luck on your problem fix.

Jim, I have an 08 Holiday Rambler that I Tow an 06 Jeep Rubicon.I ran a wire from coach via a six pin adapter and coiled cord to e Jeep. I ran that hot wire direct to the pos battery terminal to allow the coach to keep toad battery charged while underway. I use blue ox patriot braking system that draws current from the battery. Never had an issue with dead battery! The reason for the six pin cable is I also added extra lights in the lenses Independant of the toad wiring, activated by the coach lights. Hope this helps!

all righyty. I found there waqs a trailer connector battery fuse and relayt in the pass side rear compartment, and they were good, there was 12 volts on pin 4r. The toad end of the umbilical looked a lil worse for wear, kinda corroded and such, So I replaced it.
So far, so good.

Had the same problem, solved by installing a battery disconnect.2003 Chev tracker did not like the acc pos overnight so we ended upwith a dead batt on the toad, not good on our trip to Anchorage,so I disconnected the battery till we got back and then installed a battery disconnect.Part cost 3.00 bucks.

So what powers the toad brake if the toad disconnects??

Darned good question...

I tow a wrangler TJ. SMI stay and play braking, and way too complicated wiring with lots of relays and diodes and even an extra switch so the smi system doesn't mess with the brake lights....

I need the charge lead from the motorhome.
