Mine is a conventional "open the valve and down it goes" toilet.

Make sure your vent pipe has not slipped down into the tank and is contacting the liquid.

How would I know if it slipped down into the tank? The pipe is still sticking out of the roof and still has a cap on it... does that mean I'm okay?

BTW... I'm getting up on the roof tomorrow to check everything. It finally stopped raining, so it's safe.

So it still burps when the tank is empty?

Sounds like you have a possible plug,(toilet tissue?) in the short pipe between the toilet and black tank. Had the burping last year in our previous mh and found the mentioned pipe plugged with toilet tissue from "someone" not using sufficient water when flushing. It's been said many times, USE PLENTY OF WATER WITH RV TOILETS. Unplugged and the burping quit.
