Trailer Brake Control Prewire? 2004 Signature

What year did Monaco start installing the trailer brake control prewire?
So, does my 2004 Monaco Signature have a trailer brake prewire?

I just did a search and there are lots of previous threads, but it's not clear when they bagan installing the brake control prewire.
Thanks

I have a drawing from Monaco titled "Schematic, US Gear Tow Braking". It appears that the drawing was originally made in April of 2005. On our '06 Dynasty, the "north" end of that circuit was located in the kick-panel to the left of the driver's seat, as I recall.

The schematic shows a BLK/WHT wire coming from the rear of the coach, and then to a 6-pin Amp Mate-N-Lok connector with 5 of the 6 pins populated. The connector may be labeled M-66. That connector has a WHT, the BLK/WHT, a BLU, a YEL/BLK and a RED. The drawing says it is located "Behind I/P Panel". I don't know what I/P stands for, but possibly instrument panel.

Due to the date on the drawing, I am suspecting you might not have it, but if you start looking, this will give you an idea of what to look for.

Good luck!

Thanks Jim.
I called Monaco (Rev Group) today and was handed off 3 times and then put on terminal hold.
I just may have to run the wire for the trailer brakes all the way to the hitch.

Consider the Tekonsha (sp)? wireless RF controller. Works great on my 05 Dynasty.

Thanks for the idea Eagle. I already have a new Teknosha Prodigy. I pulled a trailer brake wire all the way from the drivers side under dash to the trailer plug on the Windsor and I guess I can do it again.

I don't think Monaco pre-wired for any trailer brakes until 2006.
Some older models have the blue wire in the rear but it just dead ends in the wire harness.
I ran a wire all the way in mine.

What gauge wire are you guys using for the trailer brake wire to go from the drivers seat to the rear trailer plug?

I've given up on a trailer brake pre-wire.
I'm installing and wiring my Prodigy brake control on the left side of the steering column on the bottom of the dash and routing a brake wire all the way to the trailer connector at the rear.

Questions:
1. Where is a good source for +12v ignition power close to the steering column? (It requires from 20-30 amps)
2. Where is a good source for the brake light signal? (I would like to not power the trailer brakes when the Jake brake is on)
3. Where is a good source for ground near the steering column?

Thanks

On my PU, I put in a 30a breaker next to the battery and ran #10 wire all the way back to the rear bumper. On a MH, I would use #10, but.......

I was mounting the brake controller and found a wire bundle (5 wires) under the left side of the dash. They have been cut and tucked up out of the way. Also, I know the previous owner towed a car that required an air outlet and a wire connector (different than a trailer 6 wire receptacle) on the receiver hitch.

The wire bundle under the dash has a 10 gauge black that has +13v constantly.
10 gauge white that is a ground.
14 gauge orange that is 11.7v with ignition on only.
14 gauge black that is not a ground or +12.
14 gauge red that also is not a ground or +12.

Maybe the black or red goes through to the rear hitch area?
Have any of you installed a toad brake control system? If so, what are the red and black?
Will have to check that tomorrow.

Bill, I agree. I usually run a 10 gauge wire for the brake also, but I bought 60' of aircraft 12 gauge this time. If it drops 1/2 volt to the rear I can compensate with brake control boost.

Here is a schematic for the tow brake pre-wire on the '05 and '06 Sig's, at least. Look in your front run box and see if you have a tall, narrow board that can have up to four relays mounted on it. The board is between board #F9B and #F5, and it pretty much at the top and middle of the grouping. The top relay on our coach is a Bosch, and there is a five-terminal connector immediately above it. The left-most terminal on that connector has two wires coming from it. One is black and white, and the other is white. I believe that the black and white one is a direct run to pin #2 on your tow vehicle connector at the back of the coach, and should be the one that is used for the two brake control. To help be sure about the connections, the right-most terminal has a gray wire on it. I don't know, but I suspect that it is the feed from the tow controller that would live on the dash of the coach. The next one to the left is unused. The middle terminal has a black and white wire that comes from the brake light switch power. The next one to the left has a single white wire that goes to ground. And the the white one that is in that left-most terminal along with the wire you want comes from the brake light switch, as well.

I don't know if this will even apply to your coach, but if it does, fantastic! Cheers and Happy New Year!!!

Thanks Jim. I don't think my 04 has the trailer brake pre-wire. (My 07 had it, but it sure was hidden.)

Where is a good place to tap into for the brake light signal?

Vito-

Once again, a document that does not specifically mention the Signature, but may apply.

Late Model Roadmaster Chassis Installation Supplement for Unified Tow Brake

I'm frustrated I haven't been able to find any 2000-2006 Sig documentation on this stuff.
