Trailer Plug No Brake Light

Vehicle is 2000 Windsor. I always had an issue, that my trailer plug doesn't have brake light. The weird thing is, left/right turn signal works just fine. Because regular 7-pin trailer plug wiring doesn't have dedicated brake light, it is just left&right turning light turned on both without flashing. So how could I have turn signal but not brake light? This is not making sense to me.

I tow my 2006 Acura MDX, and I checked that the issue is not on the vehicle. No voltage coming out when brake is pressed. No voltage from left and right turning light&brake wiring. When I try hazard light, it shows voltage.

I tried check fuses. I don't see any trailer plug fuse. Left and right turning light fuse is fine.

My trailer plug is a newer Hopkins 7-pin socket, most likely it is not OEM and it has been re-wired. So what plug do you have? How does it work on yours?

You either don't have one of these trailer wiring adapters or yours has become defective. It allows your separate turn/brake lights on the motor home to be combined into one brake/turn signal light on each side of your toad. They are available with pigtails only without the trailer plug and can be found at almost any auto parts store.

Thank you Lt Dan, I found that indeed I wired this incorrectly. In fact, the brake and turn signal output are seperate. There are one left turn, one right turn, and a brake light wire.
Currently, I have the brake signal wired to the trailer electric brake channel. I bought the unit you indicated above, will install that once arrived.

I thought it is fixed. But no...
I tested it with multimeter at the time of install, and all wires have voltage at the correct time (brake, left and right). I noticed the voltage is slightly low ar 11.6V or so, but didn't think much at the time.

When I am ready to leave the campsite to head home a few weeks later, and hooked uo the toad to test the lights. Guess what? Nothing! No brake light, no left nor right turn signal either!

It is even worse now, from just no brake light to no light at all! But when I get close, I can see the incandescent light has a a very faint light. And when I feel the 3 to 2 wire converter box, it is hot.

I have it bypassed for now, so at least I have turn signal just like before I installed the device. So, is it just a faulty device or is there something wrong?

Run a temporary wire from coach frame to vehicle frame and see if that resolves, if so you have an issue with the ground wiring between coach and vehicle.

Thanks for the input. While it is possible grounding is the issue, but bypass the device will have the turn signal work good.

I will try run a ground wire when I get back.

Most of the time there is a partial ground that will allow some lights to work, usually tail lights but with additional load like hitting brakes will cause all lights to go out. Anytime you see this scenario its a bad ground.
