Truck tire took out headlight!

Traveling in N AR on 412. Saw the blowout about 200 yards ahead (oncomming truck). Then in slow motion (it seemed) a huge chunk of the blowout came tumbling/bouncing at us. Hit the right side and broke headlight lens, loosened the generator slide bracket and left a huge black mark. Fortunately, no broken fiberglass. Searched the net for replacement fixtures and was told by one place that they only sell the front cap as a whole piece!! Haven’t been able to look for part number on light yet. If anyone knows where I can source a 2001 Exec headlight (right) please let me know.

On a more pleasant note, the Denton Ferry RV campground is a great park. Friendliest most accommodating management I have ever seen. Right on the east bank of the White River. A trout fisherman’s dream come true. Cotter, AR.

Write down the numbers embossed into the plastic lens and Google it!

Did you file an insurance claim?

Guy in front of me had the entire wheel and tire come off his pickup truck. My passenger side tires went right over top of it, really rocked the coach.

It destroyed a leveling jack and tore off the plastic air dam on my toad.

AAA insurance covered it all.

Thanks guys. I am hoping they sourced these lights from something like a Chevy and not a Lamborghini.

Could not get info from truck. Not enough damage to file on my policy. Unless the lights are from a Lambo.

I saw an earlier post that said a 99 exec took 95-03 Chevy astro, and 2003 exec takes a 2005 caddy seville. Google the pics, and you will know. I got a hit from a road alligator (truck retread) in my SUV. The insurance counted it as an at fault accident.

I'm an insurance adjuster an you will love how this is figured. If the object (tire) is falling or flying, IE: it blew off a truck and you hit it, it is comprehensive. If the object had come to rest, and was laying on the road and you hit it, it is a collision.

I can't tell you how many times I wrote a collision claim when I wished I could write comp. Over the years, when people still reported claims to agents, I got most of them trained that the tire blew on the truck flew into the air and the customer hit it. But then I'm a nice guy and drove semi for a while and I think all these road alligator hits should be comp. Sorry they are not.

Lights on my 2003 came from a Ford Econoline van. The numbers on the drivers' headlight will be the most useful to get you an application, then search from there.

Here's a fun tip: 99% of the road gators you see are NOT RETREADS they are virgin casings. The retread industry knows that they are the whipping boy, but they also have the ability to be VERY selective in what they will work on and they layer them up with plenty of glue when attaching the new shoe to the casing. The virgin casings... Glue is expensive, eh? So they cheap out on it.

As for insurance.... Anything they can do to deny a claim or put it on you on the back end (charged claim / at fault etc) they will do b/c that makes them more money. The entire industry is a blight on society.

I beg to differ. The majority of us out there really try and serve our customers. But yes, when they cut our pensions and healthcare and give the CEO a $58,000 a day raise some of us just scratch our heads.
