Has anyone found a universal remote that will operate the Magnadyne dash radio? Tired of doing the two remote shuffle.

Hey Carl - You're gonna LOVE this one (or maybe not)...

I called Monaco to order the remote, they said to talk to the dealer. I called my dealer to order the remote, they said to talk to Magnadyne. I called Magnadyne to order the remote, they said to talk to Monaco. I gave up.

Next time I was at Camp Monaco/Wildwood, I mentioned the circular-argument to the parts-person there and she went into her computer and special-ordered the specified remote. It didn't work.

Some time later, I was at Camp Monaco/Elkhart and mentioned the now-funny story to the parts-person there. She called Magnadyne and special-ordered the specified remote DIRECT FROM THEM.
... yeah, you guessed it. It didn't work either.

Not sure what the deal is. The remote that Magnadybe lists for my radio is the exact same ones I received, but they don't work right: You press POWER and it changes station, you press VOL-UP and it switches to AUX, etc.

Hopefully your luck is better.
Ron

You guys gotta git-a-clue. Here's how my remote works.

Sitting in the recliner, sippin a cool brew. "Hey Honey, change the station will ya". Pretty expensive and lot of upkeep but it is darned efficient.

oh really? Should I call and ask TOWMBO?
I am sure it must be the most expensive remote ever made! (well worth every penny though...I am sure!!)

It is funny this subject comes up because I was using the radio for the TV and wished I had a remote for the radio volume.

My Magnadyne dosen't have a remote. How do I go about getting the updated radio with the remote? Of course, it would have to work properly.

Do you guys have the Magnadyne with the DVD or just the CD?

I'm curious to learn more on this topic. I'd like a universal remote also.

Our Magnadyne works with the DVD player and the remote is about the size of a playing card. It's very thin and DH does not like it. Since buying the MH in May, we've had the Magnadyne replaced because the DVD's freeze. We're hoping it works next weekend.

DH just got his new swivel rocker recliner and he will get real tired getting up and down all the time to change the channels. He already has me driving the MH all the time; I'm not going to be the designated channel-changer. (PLEASE don't tell him I want to drive and love it!)

Mine is the one with the DVD player. I just replaced it also because of it freezing up playing DVDs.

The only thing I despised about my Ambassador was the Magnadyne radio/DVD player. I could never quite get the narrow beam of the remote to connect with it and the DVD would freeze constantly. It was frustrating. Even more so because the TV is in the mid-wall.

I also could not change radio stations or switch CDs easily as the radio was just outside of reach from the drivers and passenger seat.

It Had To Go!!!

I replaced the whole shooting match with a Pioneer AVIC D-3 unit.

The Pioneer plays the DVD on either the mid-wall TV or on a small screen on the unit. My wife likes it because she can watch while I'm driving, from either the couch or the passenger seat.

I have navigation.

I can change to I-Pod, CD or radio from the drivers seat using a steering wheel mounted remote or the touch screen.

I also use a universal Logitech remote that Monaco Mama recommended. It controls the Pioneer, TV, a second DVD player and Dishnet satellite.

It basically solved my problem. The only thing that has not been fully mastered is the steering wheel remote. I can change function, i.e., radio, stations, volume, CD, I-Pod, but it does not do navigation changes or the DVD player.

The handheld remote which is much better is pretty much radio and DVD only.

That said, it's a vast improvement over the Magnadyne.

The remote that Gordon is referring to is the Logitech Harmony remote. We have the Harmony 720 which was purchased at either Costco or Walmart. I love my Harmony remotes. I have two for the stick house- one in the bedroom and one in the living room. We also have one in the rig. The one drawback is that Logitech does NOT have the Magnadyne DVD in it's databank. You have to "train" or "teach" it from remote to remote. (The Magnadyne CD is in it's databank)
I will be programming this in the upcoming week with our Vizio HDTV that is now in the living room area along with the Directv box and the stupid Magnadyne DVD.

Feel free to peruse and learn what you can from this site and this board. Also ..understand that the 720 is only available at Costco or Walmart- (at abt $160) so it is not listed on their main website...

You do need to have Internet connectivity when you set this up ....
Good luck

I forgot...
You are able to program it so you hit one button - and it will turn on your TV, the Directv satellite & also the Magnadyne (just by hitting one button!) ...or you program it the same way to play a DVD - or even a CD .. It is very nice to be able to hit one button and have it turn on everything .. or also hit one button to turn everything off...

There are many versions of the Logitech Harmony remote as the price goes up they can control more devices and do more automatic things. I looked at one for my systems DiretTV DVR, RCA combo VCR/DVD-am/fm radio-home theater and viewsonic TV. I think the model 820 was needed to cover these devices. I know that if the control does not list your device it can learn the codes from the manufactures remote.

Slightly different topic has anyone found a good replacement for the RCA combo DVD/VCR
