Upside down light switches

My light switches function backwards and the little on off label show it is supposed to be that way. I had the same thing on my last 5th wheel. Is there a reason for this and have others changed out the switch?

If you're writing about those rocker switches where you push it down to turn it ON?....and up to turn it OFF? That's RV industry standard. IMO, the industry chose to do this to let users know that you're turning on & off a 12-volt light, not a 120VAC light like at home....where "up" on the switch is ON.

Ours have no "writing" so we took out the switch - turned them over - reinstalled. Now in the middle of the night there is no requirement to remember where I'm at

There is nothing worse than waking up and for a few seconds your surroundings look strange and you can't remember where you are!

Most of the switches can be turned over if you feel the need.. I hae done it on occasion. Though in my coach UP was ON as it came from the factory.

(In truth only one switch in this house had to be set right by me, And I, installed that one from the get-go.. It is also no longer needed but I will leave it in place anyway. Just in cuss I ever need it again. Nice of Damon though to cut the hole for it (Which they did, also a 2nd one next to it if ever needed))

It took us a long time to get used to "Up is On" when we first came to the US, as the UK standard is "Down is On".

Many years ago, I was involved in helping Air Florida to acquire some used 737s from Lufthansa and discovered that LH had got Boeing to reverse the switches on their airplanes to conform with "Down is on". It would have been so expensive to modify all the flight deck and cabin crew stations to US standard (and to match airplanes already in the Air Florida fleet) that the sale fell through.

That debacle is one reason most Boeing airplanes now have push-button switches with status lights built in.

On my Dynasty, the two bedroom switches are for bedroom lights and hall lights. Not only are they upside down, the one nearer is for more distant light and the farther is for the bedroom light. Maybe I should turn it round.

Yes there is. It's called a bad dream. One where you have to convince yourself it was only a dream... Only a dream....
