Vesta slide inoperative

The slide doesn't move outward uniformly and stalls after movement of only a few inches. The rear portion (closest to the bathroom) moves out approx 6", whereas the other side moves only slightly. Upon inspection from the outside it appears that the bathroom side is movement is uniform from top to bottom. However, on the other side the movement at the bottom is 1-2" but no movement on the top. My belief is that the top motor is not working or the gear is stripped. We are on presently on vacation, is there anything a layman can do or is this a major repair?

There aren't many Vesta/Trips in the hands of our members yet so the available knowledge base is small. I would call the Monaco RV tech line in the morning and let them trouble shoot it with you. I have always had good service from those guys. If you need a dealer's help they can direct you to the closest one. Let us know how it turns out.

I assume your unit is under warranty. Go to your dealer and let him fix it ! If you are not near your dealer call Monaco and they will recommend a facility.

We have had the same problem ours was on the opposite side, it was a major repair and it it still not fixed. The repair after a few uses is starting to fail.

The slide issue has been resolved thanks to tech support from Monaco and the slide manufacturer Lippert. Monaco and other rv manufacturers have used these Schwintek slides with great success. Lippert's web site shows operational manuals for many slides including the Schwintek inwall slide which is used in the Vesta. Reviewing the trouble shooting flow chart it was determined that nothing was broken, since if the mechanism was broken the top portion of the slide would not have been binding, but been easily moved manually. Lippert tech thought something was preventing the slide from moving outward. A few attempts to move the slide, along with some muscle to help the slide, finally got the slide to extend. On examining the track from the outside it was found that one of the screws had backed out preventing the slide from moving. Most disturbing was that more than half of the screws had loosened somewhat.
Lippert suggested that "Locktite Blue" be used on the screws. Applied Locktie to all of the loosened screws and will examine them again after a few cycles of the slide.
Will make an appointment with our Monaco dealer to check if any damage has been done to the internal slide components, but for the moment everything is good working order.

Would suggest that others check these screws to determine if the same condition exists on their RV.

Are you going to use LOCKTITE BLUE on the other screws? Can you show a picture of the area where the screws are located. Sounds like you are good to go (pun intended). deSanford

Per deSandford's request, here are pic of screws which came loose. The screw which came loose and prevented the slide from functioning was on the top right of "cam" . Balance of screws will be "Locktited" after defect (screws loosening) is shown to Monaco dealer. Don't want to do too much since coach still under warranty.

Thank you rg neumann ........notice you also have the "new" rain deverter on your slide. Glad it was just a loose screw. Could have been worse. deSanford

It looks like a different slide system is used on the 2012 units. It looks like a cable system is now used. I don't know if it's a modified 2011 system - or completely different.

Hello - there's now a cable @ the top and bottom of the Vesta Slide Out. The "Track "as shown in the above photographs is not present on the 2012 Vesta coaches. There may be a "Track" - but there's now cables too!
