Well Walt, I think some like the 'peace of mind' of replacing parts with the exact same part that was removed (even though that part did fail).
After a close look at the genuine Meritor Wabco dryer I removed, and the aftermarket dryer I installed, I could see no visable difference in the quality.
Do what makes you comfortable !

I have an air whistle noise back near the rear axle after I shut down the engine. Haven't had time to track it down.
Is this what alerted you to the dryer failure?

Mine was just occasionaly making about a 20 second air release from the purge valve. With the engine running, you would never hear it. My dryer is basically in front of the engine, just like Harry's, so I can stand there with my hand under the purge valve and feel the air release while the engine was running.
Didn't hear any whistle sound, but that doesn't mean it couldn't make that sound.
The flow of air, and amount of time it flows is comparable to the release the regeneration valve releases, shortly after the unloader valve purges.

That whistling noise was what I heard when the turbo valve rubber disintegrated and got stuck in the purge valve.

Vito may even have the same brand dryer as you!

Don't know when Monaco switched to Meritor Wabco System Saver dryers.

Yes. We have a Meritor Wabco air dryer that takes a R950011 cartridge. It is tucked inside the frame rail on the passenger side near the tag axle.
It's a pain to access!

You can move the dryer if you choose.
Not that difficult to do. Just need to make a new bracket and re-route the air lines.
Vito is right. It is a pain to access to replace the cartridge.

Just a thought - If it is by the axle it could be the parking bake bladder. But you would only hear the noise when the bake is off as the air park brake is engaged when the air is off and disengaged when the bladder is pressurized.
