Question Water on top of slide

When it rains, water can and will get under the slide topper, when the slide comes in this rain water comes into the rv. What do you folks do about this?
This last week it rained a lot, before we brought the slide in,I raised the right side of the rv to try to get the water to run off,it did not, maybe I should have raised it higher ?So when it did come in the water came with it.Now we have a heater at the head of the bed tring to dry the carpet. Both of our slides are on the left side.

rvtips-

One practice is to stop once or twice while bringing in the slide, allowing water to drain off each time.

I made a telescopic pole with a foam squeegee to clean under the slide toppers if water gets under, and it can and does under certain conditions. You do have to get the step ladder out but that is better than water inside.
I also made a broom attachment to sweep the slide toppers of water or debris. I can sweep from the ground and do not need the ladder.

First time I realized water was an issue on the slides, my motor home was somewhat new to me, and when I pulled out my driveway and put on the brakes , I got a shower.

Not sure how this would work for folks with hydraulic jacks but if it had been raining and I needed to close the slides I simply lower the front end by dumping my air leveling system in the front first until the water runs off of the topper. I then dump the rest of the air and then start the engine to get to ride height. Shut down the engine, start the generator and bring in the slides. Any remaining water on the topper will come off when the slide is retracted.

If water is getting into the top of the slide wall, then your toppers are not made to the correct size. This is a common problem with factory made toppers. Or you were sitting in a severe storm where the rain was going sideways! If that was the case I highly recommend you retract the slides in storms of that severity.

Contact Chris or Ingrid Throgmartin at Stone Vos, Inc and they will make you a set of toppers at the correct size for your slide.

I have been out in some pretty good rain storms with the slides extended and other than pulling the slides in about halfway and allowing the water to drain from the topper I haven't had any problems with water leaking inside

Don't make an annoyance a problem..........

Most larger slide toppers hold water, so that's that, and some ammount of water is going to dump down the side of the slide.

Many RVs require it to be level before moving slides in / out, so by lowering the jacks to drain a topper has a potential to create a slide problem; hence my opening statement.

Stopping a slide part way to drain water:
Don't stop a mechanical slide (Swintek for example) part way in or out for any reason as it can create slide motor problems; refer to opening statement.

We do stop our largest hydraulic slide part way to (mostly) drain it when appropriate. But still, the last bit of water dumps down the side of the slide (don't be putting stuff away in a bay below the slide in that situation, as it gives another meaning to "wet bay" ).

That may be true for your Tiffin but for a Monaco (at least mine) and most likely for a Holiday Rambler and possibly for Safari's and Beaver's too, slides are to be deployed or retracted only when at ride height.

Sometimes simple solutions actually work: On this forum I learned that application of a few cans of spray "Scotchgard" to the topside of the topper fabric can waterproof the slide topper and prevent water dripping or wicking through the fabric onto the slideout roof. Four or five applications made my topper waterproof and solved my water problem.
