I use only water in the black tank, only bodily fluids and solids, and "Don't Squeeze The Charmin" toilet paper. After 16 years of use, endoscope pictures showed a absolutely clean tank floor and walls! Here is one such picture. Its clean enough to eat off of it!

But then I believe in the KISS system.

Empty mine only when 3/4 or higher and again before my trip back home. I use Happy Camper with great success (no longer sold in wallymart!). After dumping both tanks I mix one scoop Happy Camper in a 5 gallon bucket of water and pour about 3 gallons down the toilet and rest down the sinks & shower into the grey tank. The drive home sloshes it around, and no smell or build up is found.

Single ply toilet paper with a good amount of flush water leaves no poop pyramids.

For cold winter storage I tilt the coach a little, dump it, then flush out with water and leave it empty. Add some RV safe antifreeze to the traps, a little bit will get down in the tanks and prevent ice in the remaining water.

Happy Campers Only way to go

By far the easiest and best, Happy Camper. I have lived full time for 20 yrs in 2 class A diesel pushers and only added a scoop of Happy every I emptied my black water tank when full always. Never in that time period have I ever had to do anything else as far as cleaning it. It has never smelled except in the rare very hot weather where I just put 2 scoops in and then no problem
