What is this battery on my awming arm?

I have a Carefree Awning on my 2001 Dynasty that has a black box that holds a garage door opener type battery. It has a button on the printed circuit board and a silver spring on the top side of the arm.

I have no idea what it is. Is the silver band on top supposed to be attached? It might be some sort of remote receiver?

No lights. There are two wires going into the black plastic box. I will check for voltage. Maybe someone with a early 2000 dynasty had one too.

If it has a battery and a button it is likely a remote to open/close the awning. I can't think of much of anything else.

Less you are confusing something else for the "Garage door battery".

However that said, POst make and model off the ID label (Ok model you already did the make) Given the model I can do a bit of research.

Will do. I also sent carefree an inquiry. The little button is on the circuit board. Th battery is musing its cover. I will Clem it up and see if I can get the little button to do something. Maybe I just need o procure a remote.

If yours is like mine that should be the wind sensor. When wind catches the awning it billows the fabric causing the top arm to contact a micro switch in that sensor. When that happens the sensor sends a wireless signal to the control box and is supposed to retract the awning. In theory this is supposed to save your awning from wind damage, but I've never had any luck getting the system to work as advertised. I've attached the manual for the awning that I have on my 03' Diplomat. If this isn't the one you need, the manuals are available from Carefree of Colorado's website at: Technical Documentation for Discontinued Products
Hope this helps,
Colin

Does yours have this metal band on the top? I cannot tell if it is suppose to be in the air like this or folded down into the grove? Can u pm me a pic of yours top and bottom. I need to find a replacement battery cover somewhere too.

Unfortunately I can't help you with the pictures, my awning drive motor bit the dust a couple of months ago so there's no way to easily extend and retract it. As for the metal strip, I'm pretty sure mine wasn't sticking up like that. My guess is that it was laying flat in that upper awning support, but honestly I've never climbed up there to look at it. Hopefully someone else will be able to help you out with some detailed pictures.

Take care,

Fiereman 898 Here is the label on my motor. I doubt Carefree has one any longer.

Your motor may not be bad. The wires on my plug outside on the coach wall, plug and jack, all were corroded and broke off. The fix was to solder them in as the terminals had tiny screws to hold the wires and the screws were rotted away. After this repair the awning worked better than ever.

There are two terminals on the motor cover where you can connect 12v dc to operate the motor if the plug is not working. Might want to try that.

Rex,

Thanks for the info. I'm painting our house at the moment so it will be a while until I get to work on the rig again, but I will be sure to check the connections. The awning never seemed to work quite right since we bought the unit - it always seemed like it was struggling to retract itself. It would be great if all it took to get it back in shape was a little time and solder.
