Doing some troubleshooting in my Wet Bay area and I came across this "sensor". I think it is a temperature sensor. It looks like it is designed to clamp around a pex pipe or electrical bundle (?).

There is another sensor in that area too, that looks like a short piece of 10Ga wire (the wire has "Temp Sensor" marked on it). Both are just laying in the compartment.

Does anyone know what this is for? And does it need to clamp around anything, or just lay there?

Do you have an AH heat exchanger in there?

Looks like the part number is cited on the side. Try typing that into Google Search and see what pops up. Hopefully your "Google Fu" is strong.

It is a "Snap Temperature Sensor"(open or closed switch contacts depending on temp.). I guess it is for the AquaHot so it can turn on if the basement temp gets too low.

My aquaHot is in the first bay behind passenger side front tire. This sensor is in the Wet Bay, which is last bay before drive tires (which makes sense since that's were all the plumbing is located).

Googling the number "37T31 31210 L49-10F" brings up several similar devices but no exact match.

Looks like a low return temperature sensor for a boiler type heating appliance. L49-10 indicates it's open at 49 deg. and closes with a 10 deg rise. This would limit the return water/fluid temp, anything above the limit setting allows flow through the appliance, below the limit recirculates within the appliance.

I did see (when Goggling the part number) that this type of switch is an "Open or Closed" contact switch (SPST).

The same style is used on the defrost pipe for AC/Refrigeration units. I could not find the exact part number on-line, but I learned (believe) that this is temp switch that turns on the basement heat when the AquaHot is set to furnace mode.

I have one like that in the Pipe's bay in my 2001 Beaver, just tested it with a jar of crushed ice & water. put in ice fan & zone pump came on in a few min, took it out a few min it went off.
