The sides of my step well is carpeted. The same carpeting as the living area. I'm going to leave that as is. If I ever get around to replacing the carpeting in the bedroom with engineered-wood planks, I save some for the step entry sides.
I do have the air-powered step slide cover. If you look at my picture in the first post, that "broom looking" part is the slider. Maybe your were asking someone else.
I don't need to do anything with that other than I will put the SS panel on that riser just under the slideout opening. The landing above that slider is the coach floor level and it is already tiled.

Mike, will you grout the tile or caulk? My fear would be the grout cracking.

I have already pulled off the "outdoor" carpeting installed by previous owner, and found the original rubber tread underneath (like in the pic above, but black). I pulled that off and see the step frame is made of metal.
I'm going to be using 18ga 304 stainless steel (mirror finish) on the risers, and will put porcelain tiles on the steps. I plan to use a Schluter stair profile on the step nose (like this) https://www.schluter.com/schluter-us.../p/TREP_SE-S-B to provide slip resistance and hide the tile edge.
I contacted Laticrete tech support and was told I can use their Latapoxy 300 (trowels on like thinset) directly on the metal step surface and set my tiles on that. https://laticrete.com/en/our-product...y-300-adhesive
I am trying to find tile now that matches what is already in the couch. If I can't find anything closely matching, DW has a few ideas.

That's a good question.
I have had good success with SpectraLock (epoxy grout) at home. It goes on easy, wears great, and doesn't stain, but in this case maybe color matched sanded-silicone grout would be better.
I'm not sure how much flex to expect. The step area is very minimal (30" x 9" for each step. So that is like three tiles/grout lines per step, and the edges.

They have polyurethane sand or non sanded grout. Completed my whole floor. No more crack grout.

John, very nice!
What did you use for grout? And what did you set the tiles in (thinset or epoxy, or something else)? I going to be using laticrete "Latapoxy 300" which is a three part epoxy adhesive. https://laticrete.com/en/our-product...y-300-adhesive

Almost done!
I removed all the old material (the outdoor carpeting and rubber step under that), cleaned everything and installed SS mirror plate to the risers and tiled the steps. I was lucky to find tiles for the steps that closely match the interior tiles.
I used the Epoxy thinset (Laticrete Latapoxy 300) https://laticrete.com/en/our-product...y-300-adhesive to set the tiles, and automotive panel adhesive (Lord Fusor epoxy adhesive) to attach the stainless steel panels. https://www.lord.com/products-and-so...adhesive-(slow)
The grout is coming tomorrow. I using Laticrete SpectrLock (Epoxy grout). https://laticrete.com/en/support-and...ctralock-grout
Once I finish the grouting, I will install LED light strips with the aluminum track at the bottom of each riser. (from LEDSupply). https://www.ledsupply.com/led-heatsinks/led-strip-track
Hopefully, I will finish everything this Saturday. I'll post a photo when I'm done.
Thanks for all the advise, photos, and ideas.
