Where is it?

06 Cayman 36: I've got a slow leak in the potable water tank. It drips out through the electrical bay. Anybody know what I've got to remove to get to the tank?

Anybody have a similar leak and find the way to repair it?

P.S.: It is not the dump valve leaking.

The gravity fill door will tell you where to find the tank.

On my coach passenger side has a door on the back side of the water tanks. The door has a standard latch system but a lot of coaches have this door secured with straps at the bottom.

I "think" I could pull the fresh water tank out on that side. I'd still have to get to the lines on the drivers side by removing the panel in the wet bay that covers the piping etc,

Before I did anything I'd make sure it's a leak in the tank versus a pipe or fitting.

You will find that there is a panel on the right side behind the storage doors and in front of the rear wheel. It is locked in with 2-4 self tapping screws. Once you remove the screws, the panel is hinged and will swing open, giving access to all your tanks. The panel is directly across from your water/dump access door on the left side.

That said...if it leaks in the electric bay, it is not likely the tank itself, but one of the water lines. Those are mostly accessible through the kitchen under sink, bath under sink, and closet water heater access.

Thank you all. I knew nothing of any sort of access from the curb side. I'll explore.

Yes, it could be a line rather than the tank, but the leak would have to be below the floor. The cabinets under the sink and lavatory are dry.

Okay, one-step update: No tanks curbside. Protane tank is nestled up between frame rails inboard of the first bay forward of the rear axle. Nothing outboard of that except bay bottoms. Road side: Took a look underneath and saw a drip from a ground wire passing through the bottom of the shore power cord bay immediately in front of the plumbing bay. Traced the wetness to where a white plastic pipe comes down from the lower half of the top rear of that bay, makes a 90, and runs into the plumbing bay. Further access will be gained by removing a trim panel on the upper half of the shore power bay elevation. What's behind or above that I don't know yet.

Update update: Tried to remove the upper back panel of the power core bay, through the top of which the drip was coming, hoping to see the potable water tank. Couldn't get the panel out of the bay -- too wide. Don't know how the heqq it was installed.

So: step three is going to be to take it to my coach guru.

Is there not a blank panel curbside? It should be directly opposite the dump panel door roadside.

Some people have cut the panel in two pieces and then added a backer strip on one side and used screws to put it back in.

There is not. All the bins are one-piece molded plastic without openings in backs, sides, bottoms except for the routing of wires, hoses, and pipes.

My plan now is this: since the leak is only a drip and is below all fibrous material, I'm going to let it leak. We don't dry camp. Before each trip I'll put enough water in the tank to last us until we get to our campsite and connect to their potable water. Eventually I'll get around to having a shop look into the situation. I suspect there's a leak at a line coupling, perhaps where a line connects to the tank.

Meantime, than y'all for trying to help.

We’ve got a 2005 HR Ambassador and we have a leak too plus a kink in the fresh water hose. I don’t even know who they got the bay utility wall in there I see screws but the panel won’t come out front ways so we too will continue with the leak. It only leaks when we push the two red 120V buttons (I flip them both so the water gets hot quicker) we don’t get a leak when those switches are off so we turn them on when we need hot water and keep them off when we don’t. It’s only the hot water leaking not the cold water

Hmmm. Thankee; I'll look into that. We store with the button in the bay on and the one inside the coach off. Incidentally, I can't figure out how those two switches are wired -- series or parallel. Most time it seems series but not always.

I think you may mis-understand. The panel you are looking for is not a door. It is just a blank, inert panel on the side of the rig. It is not intended to be opened except to service the tanks. It is permanently closed using screws...no door latch to open it. It is sealed underneath, so you cannot look into it like the propane bay, which crosses across the entire rig, but is open under.
