Windsor manual Carefree door awning

We recently purchased a 2004 Monaco Windsor. For the first time, I attempted to open the door awning, which is a manual Carefree. Not electric. It doesn't have a center pull strap, like the window awnings. I only see one metal slide bracket on the right side arm with two holes in it. Looks like it would be for the pull rod, but pulls the awning all cock eyed. Nothing on the left side and no pull strap. It must be missing something. I had to get out the ladder and unroll it by hand, then lock the to legs in place to hold it out. Does anyone know the secret as to what part is missing.

Here's the instructions for my door awning.

To Extend The Awning
• Hook the pull strap loop with awning pull rod.
• Pull strap until awning is at full extension. With free hand, lever out inner arms.
• Mate the slot of inner arm with hook on side of motorhome. Repeat procedure for other arm.
• Release strap slowly ensuring inner arms are secure. Slide the strap to rear of awning roll tube and tie to rear arm.
• Loosen locking knobs for both arms and extend arms so the canvas will clear door in the open position.

I think you need a new strap -- they're replaceable.

If it's like any of the ones I've had before, I'd be guessing your pull-strap is missing. Found a place in eBay (naturally, it's been a few years and I can't find/remember it now) that sold replacement straps for a very decent price and were a lot better quality than the originals.

Installing the pull-strap is easy, just slide the plastic piece at the end of the new pull-strap into the channel on the roller tube.

Hope this helps.

On our '02 DSDP the strap broke so I just pulled it out one side at a time and set the brace in. Worked fine and wasn't hard. Straps are cheap but you do have to get a short one due to that awning being short.

Mine is also the same as this except on the front arm there is a locking bracket. The small piece with 2 holes is the lock, use the awing pull to push the lock up. I then have a strap to pull the awning down.

Good evening Monaco Wolfy; I have an 01 Windsor that I am sure has the same as your over the front door awing. You are missing the pull strap. If you deployed the awning, look for the grove in the awning roller tube. The grove will run the length of the tube. I bet you will see the small plastic piece in the tube grove where the strap used to be fastened. I had to replace the strap on my 2000 Windsor and now have to replace the strap again on my new to me 01 Windsor. The strap length you need is 36". You can get that part from Carefree or go to Amazon and put in Carefree OF Colorado 36" pull strap. That is where I purchased mine. Came from an RV store in Casa Grande Az. It is a Carefree part. Somewhere in the $10+ range. I have the new strap in the coach along with some 27" ones to replace on my bedroom awnings. The 27" straps I bought from Guaranty RV in Junction City, Oregon when I was there in 05. You could also give them a call about the 36" strap. The parts people at Guaranty are very helpful and great to work with. Hope this gives you the answers you are looking for. Good luck.

Hi Monaco Wolfy; When you get you new strap, if there are not any instructions with it, just post on this forum, how do I replace my over the front door Carefree awning strap. You should get lots of help. Have a good evening.
