Windsor, slideout hydraulic cylinder leak.

Hello folks I have a older 1999 Monaco Windsor that is still a good Motorhome but things are starting to age. One of the Hydraulic cylinders for the slide is leaking. Has anyone here changes one? I have to fix this and not sure how you would get to this. Looks like the floor will have to be removed. Tell me I wrong.

The Windsor is a step down form a Dynasty. I know there is a post from ~1 year ago that involved pulling the two cylinders on the front slide. Did not have to remove floor but had to be a little bit of a contortionist.

Thanks a lot. This isn't going to be fun but not as bad as I thought.

Well I got time to check it out and looks like it is the cylinder leaking. Where is the best place to order a new one from? I would like to have the new one before I start. I don't want to have it taken apart and not be able to get parts.

Do you know who the manufacturer is.

Here is a site that has common slide parts for Monaco coach
https://www.lci1.com/
See if you can find the info there.

But the slide cylinders are pretty simple, you can probably get all the seals and orings from a local hydraulic repair shop. If you are not comfortable doing it yourself they should be able to rebuild. My guess is it would cost ~$50 if you did it yourself, ~$2-400 if they rebuild.

I rebuild the cylinders on my backhoe and front end loader. I buy the seal kits, pull the cylinder, tear it apart, clean, put new seals in, put it back together.

I did screw up one of the gland seals last time and went to a local shop for a new one (I've dealt with them for years) and the shop supervisor got a new seal and actually installed in the gland to make sure it fit and they didn't charge me anything, can't beat that.

If your slide is made by HWH, they are available new or they will rebuild yours for you. You can also have them rebuilt locally. I had all three, a synchronizing cylinder and two RAM cylinders, rebuilt locally. Two of the three leaked after rebuilding and I had to take them back. They rebuilt both again, using heavier seals and they appear to be holding. I took the third cylinder back to have the heavier seals installed too. They said they used the original seals the first time so I don't know. IF I had it to do all over again, I'd send them to HWH for rebuilding. Here's HWH's contact information.

One more thing, the leak was odd. They had a jig at the hydraulic shop and the tech said they didn't leak as long as they had pressure on them, they leaked when the pressure was relieved.

I don't think the pressure will ever be relieved. The pressure will either be on one direction to push the slide out or the other way to push them in.

Talk about HWH slides I plan to replace the hydraulic oil. I have 2 questions,
1. Which way would result in more oil in the surge tank? With the slide in or out? If I can have more oil in the surge tank, then I can replace the more old oil with the new oil.
2. How much oil do I need? I bought 1gal. from Camping world, but not sure if that would be enough.

Not in the coach, on a test jig. With the cylinder on the jig, a pump pressurizes it and as long as the pump is on, there was no leak. A few minutes after turning the pump off, the cylinder leaked.

I don't think it matters, the fluid level seemed to be the same with the slide in or out.
