Zip-Dee Awning

Sorry about the plethora of posts..here's another.

We have a Zip-Dee main awning and the previous owner stated they never used it.

Well today i opened it up and frankly it sucks compared to the AE awning I'm used to. While the fabric on the Zip-Dee is better quality it takes two people to open and has lots of steps to open it. Very clunky operation with connecting J hooks to the awning rail, especially since i'm not tall and don't expect to have to get a ladder out to open my awning.

Also, the awning spring needs to be replaced since it will not retract on its own.

Anyone have a similar experience with the use of their Zip-Dee?

This is my first Zip-Dee main awing but if they are all like this, why would anyone choose them?

Second question: has anyone added an electric awning to their coach?

Interesting. I had a ZipDee on an old 1986 Beaver. I too thought there were a lot of steps but the I felt the quality of the awning couldn't be beat. That was probably the best awning I've ever had.

Having said that, ZipDee had many parts available on their web site and I was able to replace just about anything on it. I also had an issue where it would not retract on its own. There is a process to wind the spring without removing the awning. I had to do this a few times over the years. It's pretty simple and on the website as well.

I now sport a Carefree of Colorado, but it came on the coach. It's nice but I always feel like I have to retract it due to the wind.
