Obviously you need to check with Reese to see what pin boxes the Goosebox will fit. I can't remember who made the ones for Excel but I'm pretty sure it wasn't Lippert. If you are wanting to go down that road I can see where the Goosebox would be the way to go. It would appear it would be much less stressful on the frame than a straight goose neck conversion.
If you are getting a new truck you may be able to get the factory installed pucks for mounting the hitch which would leave the bed clean when the hitch is removed. A lot of folks are bragging about the Anderson light weight hitches and now Reese has one to match which may be another option but without an air ride. Personally I have a Trailer Saver air ride hitch and the Demco Glide Ride pin box. A very smooth ride. I also have the old style bed mounted hitch rails which pose no problem for me but that depends on how you use the truck.
