A/C Circuit Breaker Trips at Times

Just wondering if any of you are having this issue. I not heard talk of it and thought I'd make a post. This issue happens maybe 4 or 5 times a summer season (we only use it maybe 20 times a season) . The pattern seems that it trips on "ramp up" or start up. It has never tripped while running. I called PI just to make sure they hadn't upgraded to a 25 amp breaker and they have not. The Coleman-Mach Polar 15,000 BTU performs great. Anyone have/had this situation? rockin'

Breakers can get weak and trip easier. I have replaced a couple in different homes over the years because they tripped prematurly. Just a thought.

Amp it out to see what it is pulling when compressor comes on your compressor might need a hard start kit or breaker springs are getting stretched out and weak?????

Good luck,

James

Thanks for the replies. I forgot to mention that this has happened since new. I was wondering if other Excelers have had the issue. rockin'

My second air quit within two months of being new. Not sure what happened as it was replaced under warranty. I do agree with others. Don't know if you have an Amp meter but that is one test. Replacing the breaker is a cheap way to check if you don't. Third choice is let me work on it.

You need to do an amp draw test to see what it is actually pulling. Check it right at the breaker, and the volts coming out of the breaker.

Thanks OK still.....but based on what folks say about your electrical skills.....I'll just do it myself. One person referred to you and said "that boy has B+ on both sides"!!!

I thought that was pretty good right there! GIT R DUN!

Rockin' when does the breaker trip...on initial startup or somewhere along the line? Meaning the system runs/cools fine and when the system starts another cool cycle...the breaker trips.

It might be possible, as it only happens now and then...that the timer circuit for the compressor that keeps it from starting to quickly between cycles isn't keeping the compressor off long enough between 'duty cycles', when that happens it requires more amps to startup and possibly trips the breaker. But then again....maybe not.

Before checking the amp draw...without 120vac applied...check the wire connection at the breaker and ensure the breaker is seated correctly. If possible ensure the connection up on the unit for the 120v is also tight.

20 times a season....you might save some money on your next unit by not ordering the next Excel without an A/C unit...

Thanks work, as I mentioned above. It's only trips on start up. Very intermittent. I do need to hook up a amp meter but it is so intermittent that would be hard to do.

My main reason for posting is to see if anyone else is having the same issue thinking the 20 amp breaker may just be a bit light for the circuit.

At this point there ain't no takers! So many are just doing the FB deal and not all that many still in this old fashioned style of forum!! Thanks! rockin'

Tom, checking in over here from the FB deal, where membership has tripled!

I have not had the 20A AC breaker trip.

Last weekend I ran both 15K AC's on 30 amp service!

All trailers, from cheapo to Excel's use 20A breakers on the circuits. Even ~90 model Toyota Class B MH had a 20A for the AC.

Replace the breaker and see if that solves the problem.

If not, check your AC amp draw.
