Does anyone know if you can connect the Visio TV to the surround sound in the 2011 Excel? I'm thinking that you may need a receiver added to the system. In ours the only way to enjoy the surround sound is with the disk player. The TV has to use it's own speakers. We purchased a sound bar that works well but it is ashamed that we can't use the factory set-up.

I have to ask, because it took us almost a year to realize we had to select "optical" for the audio selection on the receiver to get the TV to use the surround sound system. Up until then, we just listened to the TV using the TV speakers. If the "optical" trick works, then just turn the TV volume down all the way and enjoy the surround sound. We have a 2010 with a Panasonic TV and a Jamo audio stack.

We have the same problem with a Westinghouse LED tv. The audio jack for the coach sound system that fit the old CRT tv also fits the new tv, but can't get the sound to work. Have to use the tv speakers.

Give me the model number of the TV and AVR and I'll tell you if it can be done or like above may just be a setting in the TV and AVR thats hooked up already. I am assuming since you have surround already you have a receiver or combo unit disk player receiver. This is what I have in my 2012 Excel. Also, are you watching Sat or OTA TV?

3 Ft Digital Optical Fiber Optic Toslink Audio Cable HD DVD - Amazon.com
Just connected my Vizio to a new sound system with this. Everything goes to the new sound system from the TV.
You don't need expensive cables. Anything over $10 is a ripoff.
RickS will see if your models are capable of using that cable.

Thanks for the reminder to do this. I replaced the player that came with our trailer with a blu ray last year and forgot about hooking up an optical cord to run the tv sound thru the surround system. Don't know why I didn't since I have a couple of our TV's at home running this way.

Actually figured out simple answer to my problem..........works better if you plug in both ends of the optical cord! Guess I can take the new Samsung sound bar out and put it in the S&B. Thanks for the replies. Seems we always look for the complicated fix first.
