I found a blog (Firedude)on the net that talks about the yellowing trim on their 5th wheel. They mention a product I haven't heard of before called Awesome. See quote below...
Quote:
Now we come to the trim around the windows and accent points of the rig that covers joints and screws etc. Often this trim gets a yellowing appearance and looks bad. I finally found a product that returns it to it's orginal WHITE color and makes it look brand new. It's Called "Awesome" and can be found at Dollar World Stores in a squirt bottle. I use a rag and spray it with the Awesome and it takes very little effort to accomplish the task. I then take a clean rag and wipe it off.

Our rig is less than a year old, kept indoors when not camping, and still the trim molding around the front door is yellowing. I haven't heard anyone on our site mentioning anything that would recover the original white; maybe this is worth trying. He has more information on cleaning his rig and after 3 years claims it still looks brand new. See link below.

I use Awesome on everything around the house, but haven't noticed that it takes the yellow off the trim (due to UV damage on many plastics and rubbers). I do get it at the Dollar Store and it works good. However, the spray head craps out shortly after you use it. I just change out the spray head with a better unit. Let me know if you find out on it taking off the yellowing as I kinda doubt it will. Just my opinion.

Mike,
I tried it on the outside trim around the window on one of my doors. It does lighten the yellow some and the rag shows some yellow residue, but guess what? It does the same with several other cleaning products. I even tried regular Windex and it works too. None do a great job. Just lighten it with a lot of rubbing. Da**, I think you got me in my an** cleaning mode again. Shame on you! HTHs

Funny we were just talking about this "yellowing" affect as we were walking through the campground today but we noticed that many rigs are now using black trim around the windows (even when it's a white body) which would seem to eliminate the problem. Is there some benefit to having the white trim over the black other than giving me one more thing to scrub ?

Linda,
Don't know the answer to your question, but do know that the windows that PI uses is HEHR (pronouned "hair") and they are a known good manufacturer of RV windows. The SOBs use some other brands of windows that use the black trim. I'm not familiar with those brands personally. I'm with you on the black trim ones, would appear they'd easier to take care of. They may fade with time if not taken care of, but not turn yellow even if taken care of as in the white ones. Almost everything has a trade off. Tom

 Must be cleaning day!!
We spent the whole day getting dead bugs and dirt off our rig today!! We logged close to 5000 miles last month, and it was time to make the truck and trailer look new again!
Today we used dry wash that we bought from smokyjo at last month's Escapade.
Worked pretty good.

Dead bugs on the front cap respond well to wet dryer sheets like "Bounce" or "Snuggle".
The trim ring around the window in our door is yellowing and we also have chalking on our front and rear caps..wish it were not so but I thnk it is the nature of the beast. Maybe one day I'll have a fiver painted with Imron 6000 and 5 or so coats of clearcoat and won't have to worry about it any longer.

Didn't I read or see in one of PI's promo materials that the black frame indicates thermo pane windows and white is single pane? Couldn't say about SOB's but mabey it's a Hehr thing.
[Edit] I just looked outside and my Rockwood thermo pane windows have black frames, too. Could it be a trend??

The Excel Units that we have here all have the White Framed Thermopane windows. Now the other units that we have on the lot have a black framed thermopane windows, But there are a completely different window then the ones that Excel places in theirs. Same company Hehr, but different design.

MakinSmoke,
Do you use the wet Bounce sheets to take off the existing bugs or as a post treatment after the front cap is clean so that they are easier to remove the next time you wash?
