couple of BASIC newbie questions

Assuming you've got a full gray water tank to flush with after dumping your black water tank, is it still necessary to hook up a hose to the sewer flush connection as well? Not a big deal either way, but it's just one more step.

My other question is what happens if your black water tank gets too full? I'm assuming it backs up into the commode, but is there a risk of something worse happening? Can't always trust those sensors . . .

Thanks.

The reason to flush the black water tank is to clean the inside of the black water tank and the sensors. This helps keep the sensor working better. The gray water will only flush the hose from the gray water tank to the outside and end of the sewer hose.

Still is right on on this one.... You will never get your black that full, because you get too many warning signals, 1. the toilet burps back when flushing and 2. the sounds of the water/solids flushing get a higher tone. I'll just say if you overflow a black tank into the stool.....you ain't cut out for RVing....you gotta try real hard.

If you go to my thread on "Grey water tank leak" You'll find, based on my experience.......NEVER-EVER let either tank get that full...and travel with as little as possible in the tanks as possible. IMHO rockin'

I flush because: 1) It's our first trailer to have the flush unit, so it's new and we practice with it, and 2) I know what's in there

The way we do it is:
1. MT the black water tank while flushing from the spray head.
2. Shut the black water drain valve and continue to flush the tank to add a few gallons of water for the next use.
3. Stop the black tank flush
4. MT the gray tank.

If you used your black tank flush and a clear elbow one time, you would know why we always use our black tank flush.

Agree with the clear elbow -- installed one on our Excel and flush until I don't see any 'dirty' water. As we all know, there's no way to ensure all the particles are removed from the black tank sensors and other areas in the tank. Knowing SKIA, he probably has a camera that he uses to inspect the inside of his tank??

As others have said, the black tank flush is for cleaning out the inside of your black tank...it has nothing to do with using the gray water to clean out the sewer hose. Unless we're at a dump station that either doesn't have water available, or has one of those hoses without the threads, we always use the black tank flush and, when done and the black tank is closed, we open the gray water tank.

You should never get to the point where the black tank contents back up into the toilet...you can tell by the sound it makes when you flush and the "burp" when the black tank is getting full.

I notice you mention that the black tank will burp when it is getting full. We have had our 2010 RT since mid-may and it makes a little burp or chirp sound every time we flush, even when we have just emptied the tanks. Anyone have this experience? Should we be concerned? Doesn't seem to be a problem. I await your comments.

You must have that new model with the brown-headed cowbirds in there. (See this link for more information.) Now you know how their heads get brown. They keep the tank clean, but get a little noisy during mating season.

I told Bryan there would be complications.
