What type of finish has been applied to our oak interior trim/cabinets? I'm adding some features to my entertainment center/computer desk area and want to blend in with the installed oak items.

Chief it looks like either a 'Golden Oak' or 'Honey oak' color to me. Golden is lighter in color. That is if they haven't changed style an color that's on my unit. If you can't get a positive answer, should be able to pick up a free stain chart from HD or Lowes and compare. I use MinWax stains and they have a chart or least had.
MINWAX STAINS
CABOT STAINS
GENERAL FINISHES
Does PI build there own cabinets or by supplier?
ON EDIT: I do not see the Honey Oak on the charts. Better hang on to what I have, it has a slighly deeper color than Golden.
Hope that helps,
Chris

Thanks Chris -- I use MinWax also and have some 'Golden Oak' on-hand.

John,
I had a small coffee table made here in Fort Worth and ordered it unfinished. I sprayed it with Menwax polyurethane. It matches exactly. You can purchase it in aerosol cans at Lowes or Home Depot type stores.

There is no stain on it at all. It's a natural finish, trust me. It will however, darken with age.

Thanks Bob -- I'll prepare a couple of 'test' wood blocks before I finish the project.

Well guys/gals, the perfect match for the Excel oak interior is Minwax "Natural 209" finish if you ever need to touch-up scratches. Bob, you came the closest and I tried a test block with Minwax polyurethane spray and didn't get as close a match as with the "Natural 209".

Does anyone have any recommendations for taking care of the flat surfaces, natural oak? It appears that the finish is "thin" and "rough". What do you use for regular care?

Jim,
The only fix for "rough" surfaces is to sand with 220 grit sandpaper and refinish -- probably more of a mess than you would like to get into. You could test an area with a coat of the Minnwax Natural 209 and see if it makes a difference.
