LOL, does a 6000 mile cross country trip count as "towing far"?

yeah, especially tongue weight.....and that's a major player on the SRW as you well know.

On my DRW Chevy, I'm getting close to payload....about 450-500 lbs. from being maxed out on the truck. On GCWR I've got lots of room. Just sayin'. rockin'

Rockin,
I think you've got to respect the real world experience Doc and I along with others have pulling our rigs. I'm way behind him on total miles but I just finished towing almost 3000 RT to Fla including plenty of lousy weather, high winds, construction zones, heavy traffic, dodging road debris, knucklehead texting/cell phone idiots, 10,000 18 wheelers, ferry rides, Annapolis Bay Bridge (in a snow squall) and Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel in rain and wind and I just don't get any sense my rig can't handle it or is not safe. If it did I'd trading for a dually very quickly. It handles, stops and accelerates very well in all kinds of conditions. For those using a 3500HD 11500#GVW SRW, you're fine with the 31IKE or 34IKE if you keep your trailer GVW in the 15500 to 16000 range with a pin wt of 3200-3300 max, you'll be within spec on the truck and feel fine out on the road too.

Brad,

I agree with you and I get the feeling you think I don't like the idea of using a SRW truck. As long as the numbers come together, do it. No harm.

With me running at near max weight as we FT, a SRW truck is out of the question. My tongue weight last time I weighed it was 3960. This month, we starting our 11th year of traveling about in our rig. We don't travel all the time like Doc does, but we do more miles than he thinks (based on his comments). Last summer we ran all over WA and then took the long way around to get to south TX and back out here to Hemet, CA (about 6,900 miles). I've got the fuel bills and CC bills to prove it (slight over 100K last year in living expenses). So we do some traveling too.

Sure wished I had a SRW truck when it comes to buying tires! But for me and my situation the Dually does pretty good for us. rockin'

Tom, you could downsize the rig and get a SRW like the rest of us...

In 2002 I towed 7200 miles with a gas engine in 3 weeks. Gas in Canada was expen$ive....

My family wanted to visit every US state. We planned our 3 week summer vacations to make it happen.

In 2002 we did the westward tour from Dallas to Seattle and back. Hit Banff and Glacier NP on that trip.

In 2003 the eastern swing to Maine and back.

2004 the central route including North Dakota, Minnesota, and others.

We cheated and took a cruise to Alaska and flew to Hawaii on another trip.

Had to git 'er done while the kids were still at home.

Wonderful memories. Would not trade the experiences for anything. Few families take their kids to every US state.

You got that right. We've been to 48 of the 50 and 3 provinces in Canada. Cruise to Alaska, inside passage. 5 other cruises. 6 trips to Maui as the oldest daughter lived there for 8 years. Europe twice. No doubt we've been blessed too. Fortunate enough to win 8 contest with GM in 11 years. Won another trip to Maui at retirement time, but couldn't take it if I retired. I'm glad I took retirement as GM quit making the decent golden hand shakes deal after mine. Damn Doc, I'm running on like you now!!! We are very lucky aren't we? Many folks haven't been able to do what we've done in a life time! Life is good......even a SRW truck!!!! rockin'
