Three months later; I just got around to taking the time over Labor Day weekend to do the inspection and next steps analysis. Yes, there was some leakage around the vent. But I also found; after sealing the vent up, that I have what was inperceptible to me - learning curve - small leaks in the caulk on the roofline.

Going to recaulk the vent and roofline - did it temporarily with Silicone caulk as a testing measure.

Fortunately all the interior structure appears to be very solid; no wood rot at all!!

So the next steps is the reconstruction.

Would anyone weigh in on; Insulation; fiberglass or Styrofoam. Seems that Styrofoam would be a better choice for my simple purposes.

Yes, the wife already chose her backsplash of choice from Home Depot. So in a couple of weeks, the finished job should be done.

one more task off the eternal list.

Again, thank you to all that provided your inestimable wisdom, experience and help.
