I would also wonder if this is a Peterson Excel or a Carson City Excel? The easiest and quickest way to tell is the Peterson Excel always used the cursive "E" on their decals and the bottom part of the "E" underlines the other letters. The Carson City Excel is a printed "E". rockin'

Here's an older Peterson Excel I dug up from the 2009 reunion. This is a '73 model.......

There are two books
The RV Book
The RV Owner's Handbook

Pick up one (either one) at most larger RV stores or Camping World

Generic owner's manuals.

In addition for all the "Stuff" (Microwave, Water heater, Furnace, Toilets, Heck, even the door) that was put into the RV you can likely download the manual from the manufacturer of the device's web page.

Those valves seem rather unique, at least to me. How do you know if they are open or closed?

My guess is that they are 1/4 turn on/off, so perhaps the direction of the handle indicates open or closed--just a guess......

If you make the photo larger it looks like the valve stems have treads on them.

Not to steal the thread but it looks like the op has solved problem. My question is my Atwood 10 gal wh only has one valve. Anybody have a diagram on how it works.?

Your valve directs water to either the cold water inlet into the WH or into the by-pass tubing. There's a check valve at the hot water outlet to keep cold water from entering the WH.

Hot water heater

Thank you. Next question. When we put it in bypass mode to winterized (with compressed air) we get air leaking back into the water heater. This is probably from a deficient check valve in the hot water outlet? Where in your picture would this check valve be?

Would it be the brass fitting that the plastic (pex) is fitted to that threads into the outlet in the heater?
