Keyless Entry lock Issues

Okay folks....before we bother Ralph at PI on a busy Monday I thought I'd give you a chance to help us out. Our keyless keypad lock system has decided it doesn't want to lock. No lights on the keypad at all. We've check the fuse and sadly it's nothing as simple as that. Got out the instructions that came with the Didymop and can't find any troubleshooting FAQs. Even went to the Southco.com website and that was no help either.

Greatly appreciate a tossed lifesaver. We're not in the habit of carrying our door keys (at least Sarge isn't) and hope its something we can fix.

Danke. Sarge et al.

Just a thought. Sometimes electronics have a seizure

Is there any way you can completely remove power to the locak (including battery backup) let it set for a couple of min., then recycle the power? This may help.

Also, if there is a battery backup on the lock, and the battery has failed, the lock may go into manual mode as a lock out safety feature. Try replacing the batteries.

Finally are you sure it is not a fuse or circuit breaker? Sometimes these crafty creatures like to tease us mortals into thinking they are good when, in fact they are not (or have tripped). The fix here is to reset the circuit breaker. In the case of a fuse try these tips:
#1 Is it a dedicated fuse? (i.e., a 3amp that only protects the keyless lock). If so, swap the fuse out with a new fuse and see if this helps. If not, excepting above (backup battery), you probably have a failed unit and need to take it in for service.

#2 Is it part of a fuse group (i.e. fuse protects the lock and, say, the entrance light). If so, does the light work and the lock not? Then, excepting above (backup battery), you probably have a failed unit and need to take it in for service.

Sorry can't be of more assistance, but hope these ideas help.

If it's an Essex, I believe most lock with 5 5 9.
Have you tried that?

Thought about the battery issue but not sure where the unit is. Perhaps we have to disassemble the door.

Thanks.

Didy,

I don't know if that has a battery back up as previously mentioned, but agree to check it if you do. Also agree with doing a global reset by discounting the power source for 30 seconds and reconnect. I'm not finding much diagnosis/troubleshooting on the internet. rockin'

You may have a different system than mine but it sounds like the batteries on the outside keypad may have died. On mine, 2 small screws at the base of the keypad provides access to the battery.

It is the battery in the push button unit which is located within the push button unit on the outside of the door. I had one die on me as well. You will need to contact Lippert to mate the push button unit with the unit inside of the door. They are not connected.

Thanks Reese. Took the latch part apart and tested wiring; thats all good. We Looked at removing keypad on the outside itself but couldn't see how to do that. Hint hint?

Reese. The instructions say its Safeco and not Lippert as you mentioned. Ours is the straight across keypad and not the oval one they're using now. Shall contact them.

The case around the numbers just pops off. I have the same keyless entry as you. If you recall I set yours. Mine came from Lippert. The push button unit just uses a double-sided tape to attach to the door. To reach the unit in the door you will need to remove your window in the door. I don't know if replacing the battery will rematch the push button with the main unit. I do believe you need to go through a procedure to mate the 2 units. That where Lippert comes in play. At least that is what I had to do.

Tnx again Reese. Pried the keypad from the door, unscrewed the 8 teeny tiny screws, replaced the battery (CR 2032), cleaned the goop off the door (thanks WD40) and restuck the keypad with double stick tape. Didn't have to reprogram/mate the keypad; same codes worked.

Now I can put away my keys. Yay.
