Living/dining area slide failed
Living/dinning area slide was not extending correctly in our 2007 30RSO with HWH slides. The forward side would move, but the rear end would not move at all. There is a square drive shaft between the front and rear slide support arms. This keeps both ends moving at the same speed and distance. At each end of this square shaft is a round shaft that connects to a pinion gear that drives a rack gear mounted on the support arm. A sheer pin (bolt) attaches the round shaft to the square shaft. In our case the rear sheer pin had broken. Replaced that and all was good.

The pins ( bolts ) usually let go as a result of binding of the slide , time to lube the slide seals, mechanism and polish the slide walls for ease of operation.

I had just lubed the slide mechanisms a week ago. Slide seals are being replaced in three weeks.

Just a slight warning: Don’t replace your sheer pin with a higher strength metallurgy like stainless steel. The sheer pen is there for a purpose; that purpose being to prevent damage to the mechanism when the slide is in a bind.

Very good point Don! Kinda like when someone puts in a larger fuse to remedy fuse-blowing!!! Yikes.

Hi,
What do you mean by polishing the Slide Walls, I have lubed the bottom tracks that ride on the roller. is there something else I should do?
Thanks
Pat

Welcome to iRV2.
Yes using a spray slide seal lube , and proper cleaning and applying a good coat of wax to the slide walls, that the seals run against, will help the lube on the slide seals last longer and help prevent binding of the seals .
Any oxidation on the slide walls will peal off the seal lube in a couple of slide operations.
If the seals are leaving black marks on the slide , it's time for a clean up and treatment.

Just had the same thing happen today to the dinette slide that's given us so much trouble. Slide started to retract on one side only. A quick look underneath and the square tube linkage was not turning. Of course the sheared off bolt was on the ground so the diagnosis was quick and easy. Thanks for the tip on sticking with the same shear strength since I was thinking stainless for replacement.
