Sprucing Up Your Excel 5th (or TT)

Hey folks,

As proud owners of a 2005 Excel 5th, we do our best to keep the outside (and inside) looking spiffy. As you know, Mr Sunshine does quite a number to make some items on the outside of our home on wheels to yellow andit look a lot older than it really is. One problem we had was with the window frame in the door; after a few years it showed its age (and not in a good way). So to fix this I bought a can of bronze for-plastic exterior spray paint because I couldn't find this kind of paint in a can. I sprayed what I needed into a bowl and then painted the yellowed frame around the window. I believe I painted 2 or 3 coats; of course waiting for each coat to dry. I did this age-defying project in May 2011 and it still looks great and hasn't chipped. Check out the picture.

The other age-defying project I did was to replace the plastic stripping that covers the screws around the front door, along the bottom of the Didymop, along the front of the house; virtually anywhere that it was on the Didymop. We bought the large roll of this stripping at Camping World (see the picture) because we knew we'd use a lot. It's very easy to cut and insert into the metal tray. I do believe that the newer Excel products no longer use this method of finishing the joints on the outside and I'm not sure what year they stopped doing this (Bryan would know), but if you see aging in sections, it's worth the investment and time to replace this.

If you look at the picture of the door window, you'll notice the yellowed strip on the right side of the door and the nice, bright, white new strip on the left side. See.....it looks better, eh. So do your beautiful home a favor and invest a little time (and $ of course) to give it a facelift.

Thanks for the nice upgrades and sprucing, Ms. Beth. Regarding the yellowing of the door window frame. There is a way to remove the yellow (I did a post on it a while back) I (and workhorse) tried a number of cleaners and found "Purple Power" (use full strengh) and some "00" steel wool and some elbow grease takes it off. Caution should be taken to keep the PP rinsed on the door as it will streak if left on too long. A good coat of wax on the frames will protect it for a while. Just thought I'd mention for those who don't wish to paint those frame. rockin'

Thanks Chief. It's amazing what a little paint can do.

Love the paint!! We actually replaced ours with a black one- it matches all the window frames and now looks really uniform. I think the replacement was like 16$ so not too expensive.
