This is a time that I would have to agree with you. At one time, I was a SME on a model of convertible (also retractable roof) top that we had. The system that is used on the Excel (Lippert) hydraulics is quite similiar to what we used (same concept). As a WAG, I would be more apt to say valving/solenoid issue, before saying air in the system, especially since it doing "OK" now. Couldn't rule out an intermittant terminal, switch, or high resistance connection situation, either.
