Okay so this is what I have now -
http://www.progressiveindustries.net/SSP_50.htm

I've looked at PI EMS 50amp as a replacement for better protection. But where we are for the next 4 months the voltage often gets as low as 110 and I've seen as low as 106...eek! So I have started looking at the Hughes Autoformer - http://www.autoformersdirect.com/.

In the specs for this Autoformer it says it provides spike and surge protection but no further details. Just curious what my ever-so-wise RV friends say about this product and if I need both the EMS and Hughes or will just the Hughes suffice?

Progressive industries unit is terrific. We bought the portable also. Advantage is being able to test pedestals b-4 pulling into site. Yet, still have the protection once in a camping site without worring that someone may have thoughts about taking it. I made a short pigtail and leave the unit in the electrical bay when camping. OUT of site, out of the weather, secure and it works perfectally. good choice. ed
