Water leak behind toilet.
Just discovered a water leak behind the toilet. I appears to be the elbow fitting. Is this something I could possibly fix myself? Also, where would I get this part. Thanks in advance.

You should be able to get the part from any CW or RV supply place. Make sure you know the name of the toilet!

First try to tighten the fitting. Be careful to not break the water vale, so you may need a wrench to hold it secure.
It could be the water/flush valve leaking which will require removing the toilet to replace. Usually not too hard of a job.
If it is the fitting leaking, you will need t replace the quad washer. Any RV supply will have one, but they come in 2 or 3 sizes and styles.

We don't know your skill set, so you might can fix it, maybe not. You are allowed to if that's what you're wondering.
The picture by Palehorse is a vacuum breaker for a Dometic Sealand toilet. You may have a Thetford toilet. It might not even be a toilet part leaking, but just a water line.

I checked the brand and it is a Thetford. I appreciate everyone's response. I guess I am going to learn how to remove the toilet. The tightening did not stop the leaking.

Puma,
If it's a Thetford Aqua Magic V, I've done the repair. The valve would look different from palehorse99's part but it does the same thing. You'll also need the closet flange seal when you install the toilet back on the floor. We are all assuming your toilet is mounted too close to the wall to be able to access the valve without unscrewing it from the floor first (if that's not the case, then you won't need the flange seal.) What I did was first- remove the toilet then put it in a big garbage bag to keep the water from going all over the floor. Then remove the water valve (I think there were only 1 or 2 phillips screws holding it on.) Be carefull with the little section of hose back there that goes to the valve...it's really flimsy feeling. This hose reinstalls without tools. Last, reinstall the toilet to the floor using the new closet flange seal. Alternate tightening back and forth between both nuts so you don't over torque one side.
Good luck..if I can do it- you can too.

It is a different valve and I have replaced it several times WITHOUT REMOVING the toilet. It will crack if you freeze it during the winter. Almost impossible to winterize and I have tried everything. First If you have the Aqua Magic then remove the plastic cowling. there are two rubber rings on the back (different sizes) and inspect. Mine is presently leaking BUT ONLY when fully depressed. Look to see if it leaks with foot peddle fully depressed and then less than that (half way is fine). You can replace the valve with a little patience and a work light really helps.

cwo4mstumpf,
You must have a different style Aqua Magic or it's a different brand altogether. Here's the exploded parts link:
http://http://www.thetford.com/home/...6/default.aspx
(There is no cowling to remove so you have to remove the toilet from the floor).

I can replace some valves in toilets in situ, but others HAVE to be removed. Depends on the room it's in.
Also, it's easy to winterize. Either pump antifreeze or blow in air while depressing toilet. Everyone I winterize doesn't freeze after.
