Hi Folks:

I have an Atwood furnace problem in a 1998 Damon Intruder 349 that could use your brainpower to solve.

It operates perfectly while on shore power, or generator, or on house batteries .. while the batt disconnect is switched to include chassis battery.

When I go to house batts only, the voltage at the furnace input sags to less than 10.5 volts and the flame protection circuitry activates and flame goes out, but fan continues to run.

The house batteries are new this summer, using 2 Trojan 6 volts in series, and they show about 12.5 volts. At the converter, battery voltage is still about 12.5 volts, but by the time it gets from the converter to the furnace, I've lost close to 2 volts. I've run an external charger on the house batteries to ensure they are indeed fully "topped up."

If I run a jumper directly from the house batteries to the furnace power input terminals, the fan speeds up slightly and the flame will ignite for a short time, then go out again seconds later.

Somewhere, I'm losing about 1.5 to 2 volts of house battery power, but all visible connections have been cleaned and show low resistance.

Where should I look next?

I'm planning on taking a long trip across the northern states in a couple of weeks and don't want to have to run the generator all night to keep the furnace running, plus I'm always super-nervous about the safety of sleeping with the genset in operation.

Thanks in advance for your help on this wonderful place to exchange RV and MH experiences.

Regards to all,
Lee
