2009 Tuscany step "cover" problem

We just bought a 2009 4076, which has an electric step well "cover" that is actually the middle step. It is supposed to slide out and move up (I assume). The motor activates when the switch is pressed, but it only moves out a little on one side and then jams. I am pretty sure I could fix it, but I can't figure out how to get to the guts of the mechanism. The whole area is a sealed steel box from the bottom, and the top only has 2 small screws that go through the back corners of the step and don't seem to actually do anything. Does anybody know how to get this thing out?

Sorry, my Damon has a simple single electric step. Hope someone chimes in with the knowledge. You may be better off posting your question in the Class A Motorhome forum instead. I think this Damon Forum is dead.

I have the same problem with my Tuscany. I finally got the step up and revealed the motor and cable assembly underneath. I have one cable broken and only lifting from one side which causes it to bind up. I can not find a cable anywhere. It's nothing more than a speedometer or power seat cable. The problem is the cable insert size is 1/8" and speedometer cables are 3/16. I might need to go to a junk yard and look around at the power seats to see if I can find something that will work.

The correct cable is available from Thor. They are over $100 each, but fit perfectly. I bit the bullet and ordered both from my local RV parts dealer, since I never want to go through this again.

Interior Step Cover Malfunction

I have a 2012 Thor Tuscany that had the same issue: when I tried to move the interior step up into the "cover" position, only the right side would move. (See attached photo.) In that position, I was able to get my arm under the step and loosen the hardware so I could raise the step manually and get to the mechanism. Though only one cable had broken, I replaced both. I'm sorry, I can find neither the part number nor vendor, but I found the replacement cables online, and both replacement cables came to $55. They are the same drive cables that operate your normal, everyday recliner chair. (Photo of motor and drive cables also attached.) Hope this helps!

Tuscany Step Cover

Thanks for the info. The cables in the picture are exactly what I need. At least I know they are out there and I will keep looking, Thanks
