We have a bad habit of getting back to the coach after dark and did not leave any lights on. Our coach has the understep light that comes on when you open door. This is great but does not light up steps inside. I bought a yellow clearance light from local parts store and spliced it into the light underneath. Now when we open the door after dark the light inside also comes on so we don"t fall up the stairs. The phot will give you an idea of how I did it................Jim

Jeez Jim...now I have another project to do!
My only problem with the way the light underneath the step works is the steps have to be on which means they go in and out every time the door opens. I was thinking of adding another switch to disable the magnetic switch so the steps stay out. (unless you start the engine) Any ideas on this?
Chandler

Chandler, the red light that you see lit up on the switch panel is a step lock. When we are parked and set up that switch kills power to the steps and they stay out and the light works when door is opened and closed...........Jim

Hmmmmm. Mine doesn't. I just went out and tried it. With the steps locked out, no light. Yours is newer so maybe they made that change. I'm going to go to the Quickie website and see if I can compare wiring diagrams.
Thanks for the reply, Jim!

If the step lock switch light does not come on when you turn the step lock to on there are two possible problems... One is a burned out bulb BOB is the most common mode of light failure, the other is an electrical problem
The switch is supposed to lock the steps out, not turn them on and off, The ignition line is supposed to override that switch, (And does some times but do not count on it)
My other modification will be a way to tell if the steps are out or in, Perhaps a red LED and a microswitch

John, Thanks for the info. When things dry out I'll check it out and get back to you.

My 2004 works just like Chandler's. Switch on turns the light on and the steps work with the door. Switch off locks the steps and no light, ignition overrides and closes the step.
