Battery Disconnect

Hi All,

Last week I was doing some work to the RV, and hit the Battery Disconnect, didn't think much about it until today when I went to start it, and the switch clicks (I can hear click in the front by the engine) , but does not reconnect the batts.

Any advice on where to start? I checked the 5Amp fuse right on the solenoid, and I know the switch is doing something because I hear
the click.

Thanks,
Bill

My disconnect on my daybreak doesn't disconnect the chassis battery from the engine but it disconnects the house batteries from the house circuits so that anything that works at 12 volts such as lights etc, won't work.

Is it possible you left something like the radio on? or the light over the dash which some here say works on the chassis circuits instead of the house circuits.

Do you own a battery charger? try charging the chassis battery and see what happens. Or if you have something you can read the voltage from the battery you could check to see if it is charged. Full charge should read 12.7 volts. Here is more on batteries go to; Battery tutorial

When my Batt Disconnect switch started to fail it would only work when the generator was running (due to the 13.8VDC from the converter I think). I cleaned the terminals, then installed a new switch for $50 and all has been well for 6 months now.

I think I may have a bad or weak battery. I checked the voltage from the battery and it was 12.34. I am going to try to charge the battery, but I think it is a futile effort. when I tap the Solenoid, it engages and the battery starts to hiss, that can't be good in any circumstance.

My setup is a dual setup with the intellitec relay on top and the solenoid underneath. When I tap the solenoid, it clicks and clicks, but I don't think it is getting the voltage it needs. Yesterday the solenoid was hot.

I may end up replacing the solenoid and the battery.

Problem Solved...

Took the battery out to bench charge it, and the sides were all swollen and dis formed, so I just went and got a new battery. Replaced with an 850 CCA Motocraft Equivalent for about 110 bucks.

Cleaned everything up, and reconnected and it seems to be just fine.

Will let you know in a couple of hours if all is okay. Going through all the systems in preparation for an 800 mile trip next Sat.

Thanks,
Bill

On Edit...
The battery btw was the original from the manufacturer, so it was going on 6 years old. The chassis manufacture date was Nov 05. It was time.
