Compressed Air Scheduled Maintenance

I/We own a 2006 Damon Tuscany. I am looking to do PM work to keep the air system operating as it should for brakes and air bags. Research so far shows me having the PURest Air Dryer by Haldex which should have Desiccant cartridge filter replaced every 36 months. When I contacted a Freightliner parts center in central Florida the person I spoke with recommended replacing the entire cartridge versus just the desiccant cartridge to ensure proper function. The cost difference is ~2x cost of filter alone, but does include heater, housing, etc.
Has anyone had service done to the similar Dryer Assembly (DA34100). Did you replace only desiccant cartridge and if so did you have problems down the line? My owners manual mention nothing of replacing the whole assembly but only the cartridge.
We never operate in cold conditions so the heater operation is not usually necessary and I'm assuming the other protection with the whole assembly should not be compromised.

After 20 years with diesel pushers I have only replaced the filters every three years. So far so good.
