Sam and Bill,

I got rid of my 454 engined motor home because of exhaust manifold issues and now I am back at it

My Ford chassis was built in April 2001 - it has about 38,000 miles on it - has always been within the authorized weight limits, has never pulled anything heavier than our CRV, is driven at around 55-60 mph, etc, etc

Yet the darn studs break off - both sides. Manifolds will be taken to a machine shop to determine if they need skimming.

When I told the dealer tech about the noise, he pulled his flashlight, leaned over the front tires and said Yup, Yup. Hopefully most of the studs will have broken at the top of the flange so that they will be relatively easy to remove.

Wish I knew what I did wrong and what I should do to prevent it from happening again.

Those studs are scary small but I have not heard of too many problems. Looking at the ford truck forum it almost looks like corrosion could be part of the problem. Looks like a good excuse for headers. That's how I solved my 460 issue. We should probably start a new thread as this is a little off subject for this one.

Sam

Hi Sam,

There is an exhaust manifold topic in the Ford Chassis Forum so we can take it there.

Corrosion - ruins a lot of vehicles.
