Electric or LP Water Heater when on generator?

New to RV'ing, first time owner of 2011 42' Tuscany. I am really trying to find owners of similar unit so I can ask a bunch of questions. But, specifically I am traveling for 3 days. First do I need to turn my water heater off while driving and second when I camp, do I need it on electric or LP. I will be solely on my gen and no shore power. I am guessing LP unless my gen is converting?
Thanks

Well my MH isn't similar to yours but I think my water heater is. I turn my water heater on using propane when I start loading for a trip and turn it off after I've returned home. It stays on the whole time. I like it because I always have hot water.

There probably isn't a RIGHT answer. Many roads to the same destination!

You can actually leave both mode switches on. When Genny is running you will get AC water heating, and when not, propane will handle. Sometimes a combination of both. Added benefit with both is fast recovery time for more hot water.

Agree--no "right" answer here....but like the water heater in your house--I'd run it full-time vs heat and re-heating....That said, these tanks are pretty well insulated so when driving I tend to leave the WH off --if I remember. On shore power--use electric; on generator--use propane; use both E and P together for quick warm up or extended/multiple showers...

Run it on electric when running the generator. Why burn propane when you already have power?

Thank you everyone! I think since my gen will be on and my power panel will advise if I am shedding any device or amps... I will stay on electric. Thanks again everyone.
