Hi Everyone,

I will be purchasing a 2009 371 Challenger in July.

My wife has pronounced chemical sensitivities. New MHs exude all kinds of chemical vapors from new construction materials and processes including formaldehyde, fumes from fire retardant sprays, glues et cetera. Can anyone recommend expeditious treatment resolutions so that my wife can safely sleep in the vehicle overnight without risk of chemical exposure? For example, a dealer recommended a bowl of ammonia to counteract the fromaldehyde and that this would resolve that problem within 24 hours.

What ever possessed you to buy a new MH? About the only thing that will get rid of it is time and airing out. That could be a long time for someone who is sensitive to chemicals and it might not ever happen.

Hi Sam,

Thanks for the reply. Please note that I said I wanted to purchase in July. The only thing that has possessed me is wanting the 2009 371 model with the external entertainment center.

We have had 2 other RVs, one new and one 11 years old. The new one required about 6 months of airing out before it was usable.

I am searching for solutions which might accelerate the unassisted remediation process of time passing and airing out.

As a foot note, outgassing exposure is not good for anyone, healthy or not. Outgassing can push an ostenisbily healthy person into headaches, sickness, and the like.

RV companies need to be more "green" with their approach to manufacturing techniques. Perhaps public pressure can help make a difference.

I just don't think there is anyway to speed the process up. Parking it in Arizona for a summer might help.

ammonia helps the outgassing process. Leave an open container in the rv and it will help. It may save you some time.

Why buy brand new? Why not just buy a year old MH that has been aired out already?

I just bought a 2007 that was brand new (Well never been sold)from a dealer that has been getting the stock from other dealers that have gone out of bus. So i got a great deal (I Think) and a never used couch.

Hi Kevin,
Yes a good idea. Unfortunately, the 371 Challenger floor plan (my preference) was only introduced in 2008. Most of those units were manufacted starting earlier this year. The new backup monitor mounting bracket was not introduced until the late 2008 product run. Additionally, the 22.5" tires are not available until the rollout of the 2009 model.
I don't want to give up the features of the 2009 model but I may have to.
