Center of my plan involves the replacement of a 19" CRT and its dash box converted to hold a 23" LCD... more as it evolves as I had to order the 23" unit as its not a readily available in stock sort of one around here.
The original dash box that I have to work with measures 19" wide and 18" tall (inside measurements) and clear space to where the dash juts out next to it on the drivers side centered is 22". Depth is not an issue as it is plenty over sized deep. The mounting plate made will have to reduce that depth quite a bit. Its exact placement depends on the depth of the TV itself and is still to be determined. No matter what, there will still be a cubby hole slot underneath the TV.
There are not a lot of options here for overhang as it all gets in the way of the rest of the dash and the copilot entering and exiting that passengers side seat. A maximum width of about 22" is all I could see working well. A 23" unit has a width of 21.8" and the smallest 24" I could find was 22.8. I might have could have made the 24" unit work but I opted to go the safe route and stay under 22.
I am going to use a Samsung SyncMaster 2333HD HDTV Widescreen LCD Monitor
TV came today but not the wall hanging bracket. So I could only go so far. But it went real quick. Some One by two then a Plywood plate. As soon as the bracket gets here I can locate things and mock it all the way up, then dismantle and drill my holes in the plywood plate to pass wires through. Then a quick coat of paint on the plywood to hide things.
And its done. Already getting in 17 channels, clear and crisp most of them, with the RV Antenna.
Then will be onto setting up the Dish Network too.
The 1/2 inch thick Plywood mounting plate is 14 inches tall by 19 1/2 inches wide. And the nailers (support rails" are 14" on each side and 18" across the top and made from 1 X 2 Pine and all is attached with 1 1/8 inch Drywall screws.
All of my related Video stuff is mounted in the overhead cabinets. AC power (double outlet), the Antenna w Booster and a DC power. Then there is a single drop to this TV and one running back to the bed room and a single AC power plug down under the dash for this TV. So everything related is upstairs and just the TV Monitor is downstairs the way they laid this all out originally. The placement and angle of view of the Monitor is actually quite good for the couch and Recliner as it does not require you to raise you head and look up at all. It is about a straight across view. So I like it there and its just easier to leave all the support components where they already are.
I replaced the 19” CRT in the dash with a 20” drop down LCD mounted to the ceiling. I Got the LCD monitor off of EBay for a good price. I used a digital converter used for old CRTs for a receiver. The LCD is designed for van use so it transmits audio to wireless headsets. I plan to install an amplifier and route the audio through the front speakers to use along with the headset option. Another plus is the TV runs on 12 VDC so getting power is not a big problem.
I hated to loose all that storage space where the old CRT was located so I am going to fill the area with drawers. I will publish photos as soon as I start that part of the project.
A few later ones. I still have not had a chance to paint the new wood so I can finish this up. But I did get the 19" Vizio for the rear in the cabinet today. Not much better place to put it then were it was. But it works well there.
The front one as it was
The Rear TV (also getting 17 Digital Channels out of the air with this one).
