In theory on our rigs it is supposed to help give you better fuel mileage. It holds the transmission in a higher gear longer when going up a grade or accelerating. It probably works best on semi-level roads with slight grades. When you need to quickly accelerate disengage the Mode button.

What I find odd is that when the rig is started and put in gear, the default mode is light off. I think I read in the manual where its the fuel saver mode (when lit) and having it off at the start is counter intuitive to me. Shouldn't it be lit when wanting more power? Maybe that is what you are stating, I'm trying to get it clear in my mind.?

The light is off when you start up the engine and so is the fuel saver mode. You have to push the button to turn on the economy/fuel saver mode (and the light).

X2. You may not want it if you are trying to get on the interstate quickly because it changes the shift points, get you to a higher gear more quickly. Not too good if you are trying to merge in traffic that is why you must select or deselect depending on where you are driving and under what conditions.

Makes sense now, I'll play with it so I can get used to the power loss when in fuel saver mode.
Compared to my past experience with a gas 37' Encounter, I'm already happy with the fuel economy of the DP without using fuel saver mode.

I tried the power loss mode (; it makes quite a difference when accelerating. I'll have to mess with it some more once I hit the highway to compare MPG's.
