2016 Challenger 37LX

We have a 2016 Challenger 37LX on order. It should arrive in a few weeks. We bought it because we like the floor plan but have never seen it in person, only a Challenger TB. Does anyone have this model or have any thoughts about it? Just curious since we haven't seen it in real life.
Thanks!

The challenger series is Thor's top of the line gas MH. I have a 37kt and we love it. I would make 1 comment, when you are doing your walk through take a checklist and look at everything. Don't let them rush you and ask questions. In this case no question is stupid. Check how the interior doors align when closed, make sure the sides of the cabinets don't have any bowing or bulges (we had 2 of these). Also slide-outs with the schwintek systems have a few quirks, so have them demonstrate of few times while you check for any binding. Check this forum for ideas on what you should be looking for while doing your walk-through for more ideas.

Besides this, enjoy your new MH and congrats.

Thank you for the advice! I did find a 3 page checklist that a member posted which will be very helpful. This is a great forum!
Did Thor replace your defective cabinets?

Question

How do you like your 37LX? We saw one in Vegas last week and loved it. The photos don't do it justice. It really had a wow factor.

Came back to Colorado and unfortunately, no one carries them in the state. Walked into Camping World a few miles down the road and asked them if they would price match on a new order? We really were grasping at straws and didn't expect much.

Salesman actually located one in Oklahoma City and we put a down payment on it. They will drive it to Colorado and we can complete the deal. Surprisingly they dealt very fair and priced just slightly higher than the lowest price we could find online. It has the 6 speed transmission, and so it's very new. If we don't like it, they will give us our down payment back. Can't beat that!

Any insights you can give on your unit would be greatly appreciated. Pros and cons would be great. Thanks!

Hello Janniemac, We love our LX. It's very roomy inside, even with three german shepherds. The full wall slide really makes a lot of room. The cabinetry is beautiful and the overall quality is very nice also. The interior and exterior storage is amazing. We love the bath and a half, king size bed and the residential refrigerator.
We had a few minor issues that the dealer and Thor resolved immediately. Nothing that kept us from traveling. Missing lens cover in the back bathroom, bedroom speaker was crackly, just a loose wire. Electrical issue with the headlights, which was just a bad ground connection. Honestly, this is an amazing coach. A lot of bang for the buck!
All pros, no cons! Good luck and let us know what you decide.

Something about "THOR" and "Top Of The Line" doesn't mesh well for those of us that have been around rv's for a while. Lol.

Cheers and good luck!

Hi Capone, so great to hear you love it. I don't think some folks have any idea how much Thor has upped it's game. The Challenger has so many standard upgrades including the Amish made solid wood cabinets. We are very excited to see it and then unfortunately it will be in storage until spring. How is the ride? Our purchase is contingent upon us driving it. How do you like the doghouse? If you have the new 6 speed transmission, what are your thoughts about that? This unit ticks off all our must haves and glad to know you haven't experienced any glaring drawbacks. Thanks!

janniemac - Enjoy, we do with our Challenger 37TB. Like virtually all other brands, you will have some issues. We've had ours now for 7 months and have traveled 14,000 miles (most with 3 of our grand kids). We did a thorough PDI and still have had issues, all of which have been taken care of by our dealer and Thor.

So, go enjoy and oh yeah - visit other owner forums on IRV2. Guess what - each of them will have threads citing virtually the exact same type of issues.

Again - enjoy we sure do.

Hello Janniemac,
It drives wonderful. In fact the DW can get up and walk around and she doesn't need sea legs like our other ones, it's just that smooth! We have been RVing for about 25 years and this is our 4th motorhome and by far the nicest. We're not full timing yet but will be in a few years. Right now we are on a 5 day trip to West Palm Beach, FL and have met some folks with Challengers or know folks with Challengers and they all love them.
A few things I didn't mention:
1. Have the dealer make sure the kitchen sink and shower are caulked good. Our dealer said they sometimes don't at the factory.
2. Our dealer said that the interior TV does not swivel, but it does.
3. Also another thing our dealer didn't know about is the middle interior Entry step has a compartment under it. Good for storing tools, etc. Since we live in Florida, we store bug sprays, etc. It's roomy enough for quite a few things.
4. We added a 2 inch mattress topper with Memory foam, very comfortable.
5. We also added an additional towel bar in the back bathroom above the toilet, same height as the other. Ace Hardware has one that is almost identical.
6. Added some screw in hooks to the bottom of the shelf in the left cabinet above the door for hanging keys, etc.
7. Added Tap Lights in the pantry and big closet.
8. We will be removing the carpet from the sides of the Entry. We had our Thor Rep send some additional vinyl flooring so it will match the rest of the coach. Carpet is not good with dogs going in and out.
Email us if you like and we'll send pictures. peimerman@bellsouth.net

Thank you Capone and Big Ben. Appreciate the specifics on your thoughts and upgrades.

We were told yesterday that we may not get it because the Camping World here in Colorado just lost their agreement with Thor on the Challenger and they tell us they weren't aware their contract had been cancelled. The unit were want is in Oklahoma City and while that dealer is willing to honor the same price, we are not willing to drive to Oklahoma in the winter. The two dealers are still trying to work it out and we should know tomorrow whether Thor will actually permit the Colorado dealer to receive the unit. Crazy politics. We were pretty bummed hearing there were issues because we were never told there could be a problem.

Regardless, if this doesn't work out, we'll wait until spring and then fly out somewhere to get our 37LX. We've looked at every model and know that is the one. Happy travels and maybe we'll pass by on our ventures.

janniemac - bummer. A possible route: Thor has always been open to phone calls from owners. It might be worth a call from you as perspective owners to Thor to try and push it along. Whenever we've had an issue or need for a assistance, I've always called Thor directly and made sure I knew what was going to happen. We have a great service department but I've always stayed in the process. So - that being said. Give Thor a call and tell 'em what is going on. Hey the MSRP on the unit is north of $180000 - that is definitely bigger than a bread box.

Just a thought.

We just got word this afternoon that the two dealers worked it out. Now we are technically buying from Oklahoma City CW and they are transporting it to Colorado. Should get it next Tues or Wed weather permitting. Can't wait.

Hooty Hoot!!! Love it. But please make sure you do a very thorough PDI. The best leverage you will have is the check you have. Our dealer was very understanding and did the fixes quickly. Of course they've been terrific every since too.

Anyway - get it, enjoy it. Put up some pics when you can.
